T Mac's health seems to be in steady decline and he's never gotten out of the first round. The Rockets would be insane to give him a contract extension, unless there's some real progress this season, and that progress can only come by advancing deep into the playoffs.

If McGrady is extended, it will be the worst decision this franchise has made since Elvin Hayes for Jack Marin.

I used to love Calvin until he got his radio gig. He yells and screams and says all kinds of thing and is VERY opinionated.

I lost a lot of respect for the guy & don't believe anything he says to be honest with you.

Agreed, I would never do that, and I wouldn't reup Yao either. I like both of them, but they are too injury prone to keep building the team around them. Magic had it right last season.

It's way too early for anyone to make these type of decisions, so I don't see where Calvin's intel could possibly be coming from.

He probably caught Les and Tracy coming out from the back of an adult bookstore.

I don't know if my choice of words was bad, but by extension I mean that Calvin believe that Tracy would get a new contract, undoubtedly at a lower salary.

It seems like most people's problem is with Tracy making 20+ mil a year right now. So if you can keep him at a lower amount after his contract is up, sounds like a good decision. Now, if he is asking for the same amount of money, he probably should at the very least have a WCF appearance on his resume.

Perhaps I wasn't clear that Calvin just believes this. It is hardly fact. You won't see a press conference announcing an extension any time soon.

I think Calvin meant, once this contract is up, Les would ensure Tracy stays a Rocket.

Even at less money it is only a good idea if you still have salary cap room to sign a replacing "superstar". No reason to sign him now. Wait until after the current 2 year window is up or trade him in his contract year when someone else will be looking for 20m to come off their books. Or re-sign him on the cheap as long as you still have room to sign the missing link. Who cares what Calvin thinks? He is an idiot. Morey will do exactly what I outlined above. He is, of course, very smart.

Right. So my point still remains that this is all Calvin mumbo jumbo. Cool, thanks.

Excuse my ignorance here, but how much pull do you guys think the owner has on the GM? I mean if Les says, keep T-Mac, and Morey says, that a great offer is on the table for his expiring contract... What happens? Just curious.

I would say the owner, if he chose to be so involved, would have the final say, despite it being the GM's job. However, I'd believe that Les has enough class to respect his decision in the Morey hiring and Morey's decision with the roster.

I think Les has shown that he is smart enough to let his gm's be gm's and stay out of it other than maybe set a principal, such as don't get me in the luxury tax. Successful owners are the ones that do this and not get too involved like Cuban, Davis, etc.

If he returns he will have to take a 70% cut in pay. :p

we're all allowed to be critical, but you just wait...

TMAC ALWAYS BRINGS HIS 'A' GAME IN THE PLAYOFFS.

when we make a few runs and he reminds you how great he is with this team, you'll be glad we resign him for the 12-14mil les will pay him for a few more years...

not to mention if we win the whole damn thing this year... seriously.

If he comes for cheap, then it works, otherwise there are more valuable commodities in the 2010 free agent market.

You make the perfect reason not to resign him. His "A" game has never been good enough to get him out of the first round.
