Does anyone have a recommendation for buying pastured beef and eggs directly from a farm? There are some places/services that pop up on Google, but I wanted to see if anyone here had direct experience with anything like that. Thanks!
I can't recommend any but I know there are some that have booths at the Sugar Land farmer's market (and probably other farmer's markets). You can check those out to see if they have some you can buy there to see how good they are.
I eat grass. You can have some of my meat in bulk. Wait that came out wrong. How embarrassing, sorry.
I've ordered from Paidom meats before. http://www.paidom.com/ They're from a farm in Nazareth, TX and every 2 months, they'll drive around all over Texas delivering meat. It's really good stuff. All animals are pasture raised with absolutely no grain, no hormone, no antibiotics, and all raised by them on the farm. They have pork, chicken, beef, and lamb. You have to get at least a half box (~28lb) or a full box (~55lb) at a time. They just had their March delivery in Houston so next delivery will be in mid-May. I've uploaded their March price list so you can take a look. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/22293316/PRICESHEETpdf (1).pdf
Where ever you choose to go, just be careful... A lot of farmers "pad" their product with non grass feed meat they purchased for a fraction of the cost. I know fairly honest farmers that run out of product and buy meat on the secondary market to fill all their customer orders.
Check 44 farms, although I'm not 100% sure it's grass fed. Out of Cameron Texas, you can order online. My favorite beef in Houston.
Science has proven there are far superior diets other then consuming meat. I'm mostly referring to the freegan diet.
I don't use these services so I can't comment on quality or price but i found this off of a quick search http://www.eatwild.com/products/texas.html I see 3 places with pickup locations in Houston, 2 from the website and one from google Lazy A farm Jolie Vue Georgia's grass fed Check em out
Are there farmers markets there? Not all farmer's markets here carry meat merchants, but there are some here that do. I just found one a few weeks ago, that had cheaper meat than I'd seen previously, but it was still incredibly expensive. Though there was no doubt that the quality was exactly what you'd want, and was far cheaper than restaurants which usually wouldn't have this super high quality meat. You'd also need to have a freezer (which I'm sure you do) unless you were going to feed huge quantities of people right away.
I used to eat grass-fed bison and longhorn meat all the time, but the price on that stuff has gone through the roof. Also, I don't think "grass-fed" necessarily means that's all they were fed, but I could be wrong. No idea where to get it in the Houston area, though. I drove from DFW to Paris, Tx. to get a bunch of ground bison once.
