I believe its more than a 2 year rental. Remember his contract goes past the collective bargaining agreement, which means that his next max contract will be far less, and his own team (us) would be able to pay him the most, meaning at worst we get some assets in a sign and trade.

Orlando has the draft rights to Fran Vazquez, that would probably be a decent trade asset, 6'11 big man playing quality minutes in Europe. I would expect that to be part of any deal as well.

I still think we offer the best package of young talent, cap relief and high draft picks.

That being said, trading within the division is tough, and Paul could torpedo a deal by acting like a petulant child. I don't think it will happen personally, although I would like it to. But we do have enough assets to make a move, and we should be in contention for any superstar on the trade block all season.

Yeah. And Orlando > New York City. Not quite. I'd agree to endure the New York Winter in a g-string speedo before I'd agree to move to Orlando Florida. That is one crappy 'city'.

If paul and howard land on the same team that pick and roll would be UNSTOPPABLE. They'd be Eastern Conference favorites in my book, assuming they don't ship off half of the team...

oh without a doubt new york's the better city, but magics the much better team and I would personally take an orlando summer over a new york winter, I hate the cold.

You know, is no one just worried about this as a basketball precedent?

LeDouche was a free agent, Kobe in 2007 had a no-trade clause which meant he actually could decide where to go. Under the present circumstances, Paul should have no leverage whatsoever to demand a trade to a specific place, and frankly if he's really pressing for it, the Hornets should tell him to go to hell.

Big free agents sign these 6-year deals because they want the guaranteed job security, but obviously in doing so they sacrifice their flexibility in the name of knowing that they won't be thrown out in the event of a freak injury or something. Paul, as far as I can tell, is attempting to have his cake and eat it too, demanding the security of his contract and then attempting to demand where he goes. He should absolutely have no right to send out any list of where he wants to go. Period.
