for those who really think Tate would have re-signed with us for that price...you're delusional, or don't get it. He was going somewhere to start, period. Would have taken 2x that price to keep him here...maybe more...more likely there was nothing that would keep him as a backup.
surprised by his deal. seems like a short deal to showcase his game in cleveland then sign for $$ somewhere else..
I bet the Texans would give as high as a 4th round pick to dump him on someone else. Imagine what you could do with the extra 10 mil in salary cap room
They are both ass holes But Tate can never touch how talented foster was on the field I'm glad his wishy washy ass is gone
He's willing to go to the Browns in order to start. Yeah, there's no way he's coming back here as long as Foster is around.

Well there goes that small window of the Foster-Tate 2-headed threat. Tate's gone, and Foster.....just not the same
Meh, I'll take Tate and his contract over Foster and his contract. Then use that extra $6mil and sign someone decent elsewhere.
I was never a big fan of Tate, mainly because he had very little breakaway speed. In order for the defense to respect a running game, I think the back needs to be able to take one for 50 or 60 yards if the defense is caught out of position. It makes it a lot easier to crowd the line of scrimmage when you know the RB won't get too far away even with a gaping hole.
That's a weird reason to not like him because he is a 4.4 guy and he did break some 50+ yard runs during his time. I think lack of consistent play, either due to injury or Foster dominating the carries, was his biggest hold back the last couple of years.
He did have the burst early in his career but it seemed to have disappeared the last couple of years. Perhaps just the nagging injuries. Foster definitely loafed on the field once he got paid, but he still had the ability up until this past year. He absolutely turned it on in the 2012 playoffs. If you think that Tate is anywhere near the back that Foster is, at least when they are both healthy, you aren't paying attention.
I'd say yes he did. I, in fact, never even once considered Earl when I watched Tate. Not sure that was what he meant though.
