Maybe rephrase the question: who was the last player worth a crap who took the QO?

Why are people forgetting we will have the cap space to sign Bledsoe next off-season? I would of the thought to the word flexibility would have been burned into our brains after we gave up Parsons for it.

With a couple of minor moves, we can easily offer Bledsoe a full 4 year max without any bird rights.

Signing a QO makes no sense for Bledsoe or the Suns. There's a middle ground that should work for both sides.

But even without the middle ground... still... Hard to imagine passing up on $12 million guaranteed a year for less than 4 and the hope you stay healthy, remain really good, and find a team next year to pay you so much more to catch it up.

If your a finance dude, add the time value of money component.

Got to be a bluff, no?

Perhaps, but Bledsoe is a great on the ball defender, so still is a problem for taller guards.

How much is the Monroe & Bledsoe situation directly related to Philly's tank job?

Philly has $25 million committed in salary next year, in NBA economics terms, they've sucked nearly $40 million in potential contract money out of the NBA market.

This definitely will be a contentious point with the players union on the next CBA which is why the league is trying to prevent these Philly tank jobs from happening in other organizations, more problems with the CBA is not what they want.

Plenty of teams had cap money this year and chose to skip Bledsoe and Monroe. For example, Lakers signed Jordan Hill for $9mil, Jeremy Lin for $8mil, and Boozer for $3mil. That's $20mil in capspace the spent instead of Bledsoe who is easily much better than those 3 players combined. Magic also chose Channing Frye(role playing stretch 4) and worthless player Ben Gordon's non-guaranteed contract next year over Monroe. And that's just two teams listed.

Philly may be blatant about rolling their cap money to next year, but other teams are also forgoing long term commitments that would be required for Bledsoe and Monroe for short term contracts.

The market for players is limited in the NBA, money is a finite resource to the cap restrictions. By choosing not to spend that money, Philly depreciated the market for two players who other wise would be at max money or close to max money.

The Suns are around 14M under the minimum payroll. If they're not giving Bledsoe what he wants it must mean they're saving their 5 year contract for Dragic.

Or they plan on splurging for someone else next summer.

They only have about 15M of salary locked for next year's free agency. The only major free agents will be Rondo & Millsap.

But they're not the only team. And historically speaking, plenty of teams do this every year.

    Thanks J.R.

Besides Ben Gordon, doesn't seem like a very illustrious list.

Thing is, if Dragic opts out (of course he will) his cap hold will count as 13+ million, don't know how much money they have to splurge with then.

    Or am I wrong?

They will still have cap room for two super max contracts.

Teams can have multiple 5 year contracts just as long as their not coming off their rookie contract

Your right, idk about 2 full super max's but defitely enough for 2 mini max's or 1 super max and another 10 mill contract.

They actually might want to get rid of the Morris twins to clear cap for that. They're expiring and will count as 14 million against the cap as restricted free agents. I bet the Suns, or the Rockets can renounce their rights to the twins, but still get wink wink agreements to re-sign both of them to some nice contracts with the bird rights. Thats how it works correct?

I'm a loony for always trying to think of trade possibility's, but it might be possible to trade for Bledsoe, and the Morris twins.

Pelicans 1st, Rockets 2017 1st, rights to Papanikolaou, Gentile, Gee and Capela for Bledsoe (TPE), Marcus and Markieff Morris.

    Bledsoe/Beverley
    Harden/Daniels/Johnson
    Ariza/Marcus
    Markieff
    Howard

Ok, time to take a break from these trade idea's lol.

I'm not sure what max money next year do for Phoenix. They'll be competing with the Knicks and the Lakers for FAs. And one of those big FAs is a PG(Rondo) which isn't exactly and area they need upgrading. Money next year do a lot more for us, since there can be potentially Dragic, Rondo, and Bledsoe on the table and not many teams willing to max out on a PG. Of course, this also means that the Rockets should have some leverage in terms of trading for Rondo or Dragic. At least I'm hopeful.

Also keep in mind that this is Broussard speaking here. The guy who has clearly been connected to Rich Paul this summer. Clearly this is yet another negotiation ploy to get Phoenix to blink. The problem is, Phoenix GM comes from Boston like Morey, and these guys never make emotional decisions.

We will have around $52 million in team salaries barring trades next season. Projected salary cap is $66.5 million next offseason.

That's a little over $14 million in cap room.

Bledsoe's max will be somewhere around $15 million next offseason.
We're cutting it close, and almost max didn't get us Melo, Bosh, or LeBron.

The only thing on our side is that we'd be the only ones willing to give him a max contract. That's the thing, nobody wants to give him a max contract. Are we overrating Bledsoe here?
