    the Washington Examiner is a conservative-leaning new source

    just off the top of my head, China most probably will, if it hasn't already,
    • stop buying US treasuries;
      • this has the effect of higher interest rate in the US,
        • as well as making US farm products more expensive to the Chinese consumers
    • devalue its currency;
      • this lessens the effect of the tariff on chinese imports to the US
        • as well as making US farm products more expensive to the Chinese consumers
    these two countermeasures blow the dotard's BS out of water

    in a trade war, no one wins.

    but i see the US agri businesses / farmers getting hurt the most

    The people with the 400,000 jobs in equipment manufacturing might think that the sky is falling, right?

    It’s just more amusing there are no GOP OP-Ed’s about the free market and how tariffs hurt consumers like when Obama put steel tariffs on China.

    Very little response from the little horde of trump supporters here about trump’s expanding trade war. Interesting.

    This is a disaster. A disaster for our economy, for those invested in the market, for economies around the world, and for foreign stock exchanges, not to mention how the rest of the world views trump’s foreign and domestic policies. Madness! Some of his supporters simply don’t understand that it takes time for the negative impacts from this to give a major hit to our economy and the rate of inflation. Interests will be going up, and those invested in the market, and I am, as well, will see the impact more immediately. The only thing that will limit the damage of trump’s insanity will be if an agreement with China happens quickly. Even then, our economy and our interest rates are going to take a hit.

    Why are people acting like the Tariffs are a good thing? Our trade deficit hasn't improved, the government has had to dole out billions in subsidies to support the people hurt by the tariffs, and somehow everyone that was against the tariffs is supposed to now feel bad and has been shown to be wrong?

    That is hardly the reality.

    But of course, no one that understand what's going on feel bad about themselves, believe they are wrong, if they even have much of any thought about either of those. The fact that some of the Trump people think that way does show a lack of understanding, is just trolling, or is more interested in winning at an extremely embarrassing low bar. That low bar is, unless it's a total disaster, it's A-OK. It's such a sad and embarrassing low standard. I don't mind so much if people have such standard for themselves, but for the leader of the free world? Freaking nuts.

    China has huge leverage. Trump's re-election chances rely on how well the US economy is doing. Trump has been propping up an agreement between the US and China for a while which has taken the market on a nice run up, and now China was smart to pull back at the very end. If the US market starts dumping again China will be in a perfect position to get the deal they want. It will be interesting to see who wins. My money is on China.
