Sad news, such high hopes when he came in, his heart and passion was larger than him.

In the end it's best for both sides....

This was the best decision for Yao and the Rockets...he was a lot of fun to watch and see develop...it's too bad he couldn't stay healthy :( Farewell Yao!

Yao will definitely be missed. He has such a great heart, it's a shame he couldn't stay healthy.

Yao Ming informed Rockets four weeks ago that he would be retiring.

So the Rockets knew the whole time and didn't comment about it before the lockout?

    Why do you say that?

I think our salary cap without Yao's contract is at 48,383,963, isn't that under the soft cap?

Plus we can trade Luis Scola's expensive contract and bring in a Great C like Tyson Chandler in a sign and trade deal, No need for Scola when you got PP, Hill, Hayes, and thabeet. Just sign Chandler to a 3 yr deal worth 12-15mil a yr and trade Mavs Scola's cheap expiring contract.

Time to deal the wheels Morey!

He cemented his place in my heart after that gritty effort against the Lakers, going down injured and then returning to the game. That scene in the tunnel of the Staples Center in which Keith Jones had to drag him to the locker room is one of the most passionate, emotional times I have been through with this team in a long time.

And to think, that was the last meaningful game he will ever play. Very sad.

Thanks for re-energizing a lot of the rockets fan base Yao. You are solely responsible for bringing a lot of us youngsters into bleeding rockets red.

Your perseverance and work ethic will be greatly missed. Good luck in your future endeavors!

I think I'm going to cry. I'm going to miss Yao's heart and passion for the game of basketball.

No reason to play your hand too early with the NBA draft coming up.

Of course, the career ended too early. But if your career is going to end, going out on your shield is not a bad way to go-- very Klingon.

There is always the possibility of unretiring in a year or two. That is what he always needed. Maybe stop non-stop rehab with the pressure of trying to return in the next season.

Many a player has missed the game after a year or two.

If not, it will allowe the Rockets to move on.

    Very sad.

Despite Yao's heart and love for the game he could not stand on his own two feet. Now let's see if the Rockets can stand on theirs.

Thanks for everything Sir, you will be sorely missed.
