Your sense of freedom is pretty shallow if you think non profits should be penalized for controversial positions.

and maybe that's because you haven't taken the time to inform yourself.

    Take it, it's worth it.

What an incredible week for POTUS and Democrats. Obama's resume is incredible at this point, and still a year remaining.

What has been accomplished just this week for his party is like Morey getting Harden and Howard.

    Tax exemptions aren't subsidies

    Penalized?

    You mean subsidized.
    Churches are subsidized.

Not paying taxes is not a default position in this country or any country.
I care more about tax-exempt status for churches than I do about gay marriage.

Oh well. Happy to see a landmark result otherwise.

Seeing Commodore double-down on so many wrong opinions in this thread is like watching the last streams of hot air being released from the bigotry balloon. You lost, bro.

Churches, temples, mosques, etc. will always be allowed to refuse the performance of same sex marriages if it goes against their creed. They are not government entities. I'm totally fine with that. I do not feel entitled to be married in a Buddhist temple, nor do I think a mosque should be forced to perform my marriage.

That level of cognitive dissonance in this debate always confused me. American society allowed atheists to get married in civil ceremonies and allowed millions of people who don't share my faith to get married. It did not impact me one single bit.

Procreation? We allow elderly and infertile couples to be married.

Decorum? You can get married to a stranger in Las Vegas in a ceremony officiated by a man dressed like Elvis.

A church is a non-profit entity. The default position of non-profit entities in this country is tax exempt status.

You have a problem with that status for a church in particular because you don't like the work they do. That a bias issue on your part, but it doesn't change the fact that they are a non-profit.

I've never made it hidden that I hate religion. You already know my biases.

It's pretty lame in a thread that is about ignoring personal bias when applying the law that you are arguing that the law should be based on your personal bias.

I'm for the policy outcome, I just despise rule of men rather than rule of law.

I despise policy outcomes being imposed rather than voted on.

True, there's a lot of hypocrisy in that.
    You got me there.

Scalia is right, Kennedy's opinion reads like a crappy hippie Hallmark card writer, there's no legal reasoning here.

Clarence Thomas is the same guy who benefited from AA and then fights against it.
