wow. it always sucks to hear about things happening like this. RIP

as a person who has grown up on boat and around water i'll just say too many people don't realize how quickly it can go from serious fun to seriously deadly.

So many questions though. Sad situation but it just seems fishy to me.

I definitely hear about stuff like this happening, but I just don't really understand how it does without foul play or something else going on. I guess if you are hammered drunk you could pass out or something, but if she didn't know how to swim why get in? It's not like there is some rogue wave or current to worry about in a lake.

Edit: It seems there have been quite a few drownings here. Most of them due to inexperienced swimmers overestimating their abilities, but I can see how it would happen if your boat drifted away or something. Idk, still bizarre to me.

LOL. I was just googling to see if there are any dangerous wildlife there. Doesn't seem like anything too bad...

Outside of natural causes (heart attack, etc...), the biggest factors are drugs/alcohol, inability to swim, and jumping into water that you haven't checked for obstructions (limbs, rocks, etc...).

And yeah, I'll never understand why people who can't swim get in the water. I've had to help tubers 3 times who were in pretty serious trouble..."Can you swim?" "No!" "Where's your ****ing life jacket?"

Could also be the fact that she might have used up all her strength to save her son / get her son back on the boat, and couldn't save herself in the process.

I dunno. I suspect there's more to the story.

That's what I thought when I heard about this story.

Last year a few miles from me some guy drowned after he jumped in the water to save a kid. He got tangled up in some vegetation and limbs. Another man drowned after having a seizure while fishing by himself. He fell in a small fishing spot loaded with gators. He was missing for 3 or 4 days before his mother found him. The gators never messed with him though.
