I know the ‘Why’ sort of…the [brackets] let people know what the topic, or source, is prior to clicking it but…why? For Example: [dead] Ken Caminiti. We used to just say, ‘Sad story. Ken Caminiti died.’ [KILT] AB on Thursdays at 10 on SR 610 (Ok I did that one but I don’t know why…it seemed like the thing to do. [Movies] Friday Night Lights. I think we know it’s a movie [RECALL] [EBAY] [STUPID] I don’t get it. I do it and I don’t get it. A little help here…
Well, the bracket thing has been there for a while (rockHEAD does it a lot). But with Jeff wanting us to give our location of the article we post, I guess that might have started the bracketeering.
I thought brackets were only supposed to be for your source, so that people won't think that some trade idea or an internet rumour is official news. The thing of putting [stupid] or some other description is something that must have caught on.
RocketsPimp : Hello, Chance. What's happening? We need to talk about your BBS posts. Chance : Yeah. The brackets. I know, I know. Uh, Jeff talked to me about it. RocketsPimp : Yeah. Uh, did you get that memo? Chance : Yeah. I got the memo. And I understand the policy. The problem is, I just forgot this one time. And I've already taken care of it so it's not even a problem anymore. RocketsPimp : Yeah. It's just that we're putting brackets before the subject of threads to show the source or bring attention to a general topic. So if you could just remember to do that from now on, that'd be great. Alright!
I thought you people did it just so that it would be easier to find your old posts when you did a search via the "sort alphabetically" function... seeing as how "[" come before "a".
Yyyyyyyyeah... so.... if you could just put brackets at the beginning of each post, that would be ggrrrreeeat. -- droxford
It has gotten a little weird. The MAIN reason for it was to avoid double posts and to deliniate posts in the GARM as legit news stories versus rants, raves, ramblings and rumors. It isn't totally necessary in the Hangout or D&D, but it does help keep the site uncluttered. It is definitely necessary for the GARM.
I was told that I could post without brackets for a reasonable amount of time, I told Clutch that if Chance is going to start threads without brackets then I should be able to start threads without brackets so I don't see why I should have to start using brackets because I enjoy starting threads without brackets for a reasonable amount of time in the morning from 9 to 11.
I think the brackets are great. I instantly know whether a thread is worthy of my time or not. Would you rather click on this... "I have a great idea for an invention. It's about a..." ... or this: "[Genius] Jump to Conclusions Mat" The second thread title tells me everything I need to know about the thread. The first thread title is just lame and tells me nothing. Plus, if I click on the first thread, and it just SUCKS, I'll have wasted precious seconds I could have spent surfing for pr0n. Then I'll be angry. And you wouldn't like me when I'm angry. "If you want people to view your thread, whack it with a bracket!"
haha.. I think I started it a while back to let those know who were clicking on my posts what they were about... [STUPID] [TECH] [WEIRD] [LINK] etc... were some of the one's I used.... I like it and will continue to use them. On some message boards I visit they actually have little post icons with words that designate what kind of post you'll be reading. BTW, Chance, you may need more help than we may be able to give.
