I think with some of the candidates they have fielded the last two elections they are doing a good job on their own. http://firstread.nbcnews.com/_news/...wants-to-annihilate-gop?lite&ocid=msnhp&pos=4 Boehner: Obama administration wants to 'annihilate' GOP By NBC's Mark Murray In an address Tuesday to the Ripon Society, a Republican-leaning group, House Speaker John Boehner charged that it was the Obama administration's goal to "annihilate" the Republican Party and "shove" it "into the dustbin of history." Said Boehner: "And given what we heard yesterday about the president's vision for his second term, it's pretty clear to me that he knows he can't do any of that as long as the House is controlled by Republicans. So we're expecting over the next 22 months to be the focus of this administration as they attempt to annihilate the Republican Party. And let me just tell you, I do believe that is their goal - to just shove us into the dustbin of history. I've been in these spots before. I remember November of '06, January of '07 -- we've been through these periods before. And you know, our members get down, our supporters get down." The speaker continued: “But listen, we are Americans and we will figure this out. These next couple of weeks, next couple of months, frankly, the next 20 months, are going to be a very difficult period for us. While we want to stand up and fight for more fiscal responsibility, want to stand up and find a way to move tax reform that will help our economy grow, to do the things we believe in, we’re going to be doing it in an environment that is going to be far more hostile than anything that I think we’ve seen for a long, long time. We’re going to have to make some big decisions about how we as a party take on this challenge. Where’s the ground that we fight on? Where’s the ground that we retreat on? Where are the smart fights? Where are the dumb fights that we have to stay away from?" Boehner also said that he had to give former college football coach -- and ESPN commentator -- Lou Holtz a pep talk after both Obama's inauguration and his re-election. "Last night, I got a three-page text from my good friend Lou Holtz, who must have watched the inaugural and then all that blabber on TV…: 'I'm done, finished, the country's over with -- we're not doing this again!' Now, I had already had this conversation with Lou about nine or ten days after the election. He came in to speak to our 34 new Members. And before he went over to talk to them, he came over to my office, and he was moaning and groaning. I said, 'Lou, would you stop it? We're Americans, we'll figure this out!' And I had to spend 15 minutes giving Lou Holtz a pep talk! I had to do it again last night!"
Obama will annihilate the Constitution first. Oh wait, hasn't he already done that with his usurpation of power?
I've always expected Obama to be more confrontational and dramatic if he got a 2nd term. It's just a question of how much. He no longer has to run for re-election and the next 12-15 months are his final window. He's decided it's time to divide and conquer Republicans. Considering how kooky the House GOP is, can't blame him. They have no agenda other than saying "NO!" to whatever Obama proposes. I have serious doubts about Obama, but the national GOP is pathetic trash. Their leadership is a sick joke. They need to be "destroyed" and rebuilt back into something sane that I could considering voting for again.
The only info that should come out of stories like this are Boehner's speaking fees or the total take for the RNC. Someone suggested reading only international papers for news and commentary, crap like this is why. Honestly, what governing or legislation has occurred here that is worth relaying on a national wire?
truth is they're shoving themselves into that dustbin of history by being so far out of touch. and that old fart lou holtz can lick balls.
No. He hasn't. He has damaged it though with continuing what Bush started and the warrantless wiretapping. But the constitution is still in tact. He also didn't usurp any power, but sadly, he continued down a road that was already started.
What Boehner's saying is there will be no Clinton-Newt style balanced budgets or welfare reform or NAFTA type stuff. Sure there was prosperity, but Clinton was not able to transform the country into a European style social welfare state. That's what Obama wants to do.
He definitely should - the contemporary incarnation of it doesn't help anybody. The party of Reagan is dead when you call Reagan-era initiatives a Marxist plot to destroy America. here's a good article by John Dickerson on why it would be for the best to pretty much implode the current GOP:
This is a good standard tactic by the GOP. Why not just call the mild mannered bi-partisan Mr. Obama a socialist-fascist who lives to take away the assault weapons of patriots just like Adolf did.
John Dickerson is the political director of CBS News. He would lose his job in short order if he said the Democratic party should be destroyed. FWIW, the European Social Welfare model will fail in short order, since we have no money to pay for it.
Bless your heart, Commodore. It must be deeply frustrating for your ilk to think deep down you will never be in your revered one percent and it is all just because women get food stamps for them and their kids. Definition of a libertarian/conservative: They can't enjoy a good meal unless they know others are hungry.
Sure he would - he would also lose his job if he suggested that the Sun revolved around the earth which rested on the back of a series of giant turtles, or any number of equally ridiculous things. Doesn't really matter of course to the main point, that the absolutists and dead enders who control GOP today, and who are largely responsible for the stagnation in Washington, should be expunged and destroyed in order to make us all better off. PS - it's cute that you're basically lifting your phraseology from right wing bloggers - he's not writing this in his capacity as CBS news guy, he's doing it as a slate writer which he has been for years before he was ever employed by CBS (and in which he probably exercises far greater influence; I don't think I've consciously watched a CBS evening news broadcast this decade)...but anything to stoke the tired-ass fires of right wing MSM conspiracy. People aren't biased against you, Commodore, it's just that the GOP really truly does suck that bad.
This is also part of the Obama mindset. That any polticial opposition is illegitimate, a nuisance, petty selfish partisans. That it is not worthy of engaging. In a just world he should not have to deal with them. The guy got 52% of the vote and thinks he has an unquestioned mandate. You can see it in the posts here, which amount to "you lost, go away".
This is a crutch that Republicans now tend to use to explain away their own irrelevance and idiocy. Louie Gohmert is an actual idiot. The legitimate rape brigade that adds a new member ever few months are actual idiots. Paul Ryan is a documented liar with a reputation that is largelly fraudulent. Boehner is a clown. The NRA is marginalizing itself by parading its insanity around for all to see before the bodies are buried. The list goes on and on and on an on.The unskewed polling that you (and by you, I mean you personally brah) regaled us with last year was a fraud. You can say it's rude and say it's arrogant to note all this and dismiss it. who cares when it comes to making the right decisions when running the country? Of course it should be dismissed. Just like you would dismiss a crazy person on the sidewalk warning you that the world is ending tonight. Is it rude? I guess...is it necessary for you to continue going about your business? Also true.
