Blazers fan claims Pippen doused him

    05/01/03

    JASON QUICK

A Trail Blazers season ticket holder has accused guard Scottie Pippen of harassment after he said Pippen grabbed him by the shirt and doused him with water after Sunday's Western Conference playoff game at the Rose Garden.

Jeff McClelland, 33, of Oregon City said he and fan Michael Moore were taunting Pippen for not playing -- despite his $19.7 million salary this season -- throughout Sunday's Game 4 between the Blazers and the Dallas Mavericks. Until Wednesday, Pippen had not played since April 19 because of fluid buildup on his surgically repaired knee.

McClelland and Moore had seats in the first row of Section 121, which is near the Blazers' bench and borders the pathway through which the players enter and exit the court.

According to a Portland police report, McClelland said Pippen turned to him with four minutes left in the game and said, "Meet me at my car after the game."

After the game, the report says, Pippen ran into the stands and pointed a finger in McClelland's his face, saying, "What is your problem, punk?"

McClelland told police that he responded by saying, "I just want you to show up and play, with the money you are getting paid."

The report says Pippen then grabbed McClelland's shirt with his left hand and threw a cup of water into his face. McClelland said that in the process, Pippen hit him on his chin and lip. He said the lip swelled but did not bleed.

Ruben Patterson's wife, Shannon, who was sitting behind McClelland, leaned in front of him and yelled at Pippen to leave, the report says. Pippen then let go of McClelland's shirt, backed off and said, "Meet me in the parking lot, I will kick your (expletive)," the report says.

Then, as Pippen started to walk toward the locker room, Moore said something to him, and Pippen turned around and started to take off his jacket. Two security guards then grabbed Pippen and pulled him into the locker room, the report says.

McClelland and Moore could not be reached for comment late Wednesday.

Pippen, who was in Dallas with the Blazers on Wednesday for Game 5 of their playoff series, said no one had approached him about the incident.

"I don't know anything about it," Pippen said. "I'll have to deal with it when I get back to Portland. Something about throwing water, that's all I know."

It's good to see Pippen doing good.

I mean, if he's healthy enough to pick a fight, he should be healthy enough to play for $19.7 million.

Hmm, I wonder if HE'S too bad for the Blazers.

Oh, and Ruben Patterson's wife told him off. HAHAHAHAHA.

I still think Pippen is just above Patterson; I mean at least Pippen didn't move to another state to avoid rape charges and possible jail time.

The Patterson's wife part is the best irony of all time. :D

Yeah, how come he can kick (expletive) but can't play basketball?

What's funny is that if Francis did this, you guys would be saying "Wait until the facts come out."

Htownhero I've dealt w/ you before, you're probably a little hoe that takes **** from nobodies, if I was Pip I would have bled that ignorant fan. Pip is the sole reason that the Blazers won the game, without him they would not have won. This may be an off the court matter but whatever, I'm just saying that I would have done the exact same thing, probably more severe.

Right, because you're such a bad ass.

I agree, he provided the lift the team needed. You needn't have gotten your panties in a knot.

Again, your bad assedness is noted. You would have "bled" him. I'm sure you've bled so many before that hell, whats one more, right?

Look out everyone, PiPdAdY33's mad, someone might get bled.

If the chump can't take a lousy fan after all these years (someone should buy the lousy fan lunch or something), then he should try a new profession. Maybe delivering circulars to houses... something that he can do alone and gets him out in the fresh air. He doesn't need the money, but the image just gives me a warm feeling inside. And if he chose to do it in Austin and showed up at my door my dog would enjoy chasing him 2 or 3 blocks.
