Seems the forum is down on him. I think he's a great talent that can score at will. Portland had to make this move.

Interesting... So San Antonio's play allows them to stack the chips even more in their favor. Basically get guys who play defense at an elite level and can score within the system, but aren't a walking highlight reel.

Then limit their minutes, naturally they won't get selected to any all-nba nor all-star appearances and thus you keep your winners for lower salary.

Funny how Leonard's finals MVP means less to his price tag than meaningless all-star appearances lol. Winning isn't everything it seems.

This is nuts. Damian Lillard has basically flat-lined since joining the NBA 3 years ago and gets $120 million because the Blazers can't afford to let him walk. What an incredibly overrated player. Don't even try to say this contract will be a "bargain" under the higher salary cap.

Somehow Kawhi gets only $90 million. The Spurs get twice the player for 3/4 the money.

Come to think about it, when was the last time the Spurs went for a freak athlete? You don't see them picking up Nate Robinsons or Gerald Greens, they tend to go for guys who can play a bit of defense and shoot threes. Guys that will never make sportscenter. Aside from Leonard and the Big 3, how many casual NBA fans can name players on the Spurs?

Well if you win by riding your best players, you'll have to pay them. (Or in our case, you'll have to sign them BEFORE you ride them.)

If you win by getting team players, then you can keep spreading the dough to avoid rebuilding for a long time.

    This does not make sense.

The criteria for a player who is coming off his rookie contract, to receive 30% salary cap max rather than the 25% salary cap max is the following:

    1) Named to the All-NBA First, Second or Third team at least twice
    or
    2) Voted as a starter in the All-Star game at least twice
    or
    3) Named the NBA Most Valuable Player at least once

Damian Lillard has not accomplished any of those.

So once again I will ask, why is his extension advertised as $129M and Kawhi Leonard $90M?

That's a lot of money for a guy that disappeared after the All Star break, after whining he should have been an All Star in the first place ...

Before next year where you'd probably have to pay even more than they did. I think it's a lot of money for him but considering how much the cap will be going up I think it's a good move too

No Kawhi is not a better player than Lillard. Liillard is a really good scorer and is still a pretty all around player averaging 5 rebounds and 6 assists but he's only 24 so his assists will continue to rise along with his points and rebounds and he'll become a better defender also. Right now he can create his own shot, he can get to the rim and he's clutch. Kawhi is a spot up shooter that can dunk, plays great defense(didn't think he deserved DPOY) but he can't create and make his other teammates better.

San Antonio got screwed by a freaking clock keeper. I have no doubt they would have been the NBA Champs this year.

In only a year Damian Lillard has signed over $225 million in contracts between the Blazers and Adidas.

    INSANE.

Leonard has been in the league 4 years. His contract starts this coming season. Lillard has been in the league 3 years. His extension kicks in after this season, and also after the cap takes a huge jump. That's why it's bigger. Lillard is getting 4.2 million this season.

His defense is horrible and his offense is nowhere near the elites of the game (Curry, LeBron, Harden, Durant, Paul).
