I had a craving for lobster all week last week so struck up the conversation with quite a few people, some casual acquaintances (btw I spelled that correctly without using google, self high-five), and some friends. I was asking them about cheap lobster options since I didn't want to spend too much and everyone's first response was "Red Lobster's great, but you know what's wrong with it" or "They got good prices but you know the kind of people go there" etc. They always stare at me with a cockeyed look when they say it (you know the look, it's something racist but they dont wanna come out and say it so they just give you that look...I can't describe it, I just know it when I see it). When they do eventually come out and say it, it's always referring to how they see so many black people at Red Lobster. Is this like a real phenomenon or something? I haven't stepped into a Red Lobster in like 2 decades so it has been a while. I've heard the jokes in the past but always thought it was done for effect by black comedians. However, with so many real world people saying the same thing, I'm wondering if this is a real thing, and if it is, why do black people like Red Lobster?
I thought black people liked fried chicken and water melon. I guess that I will need to update my out-of-date, superficial racist prejudices.

I'll give you a serious answer: I've never heard this stigma you're referring to, and each time I've been to Red Lobster it's been mostly white people.
It's weird enough that I have friends who won't DATE people of color. How racist do you have to be to actually not want to even be in the same restaurant with black people. What is this 1958? In fairness, I was racist enough to inwardly groan when I would go to a horror movie and there were a lot of black people in attendance, because of their penchant for talking to the screen. However, now I have replaced it with reverse-agism by inwardly groaning when I go to the movies and see a lot of people under 30, because I just know they are going to be frantically texting the whole time. I miss the old days when they just tried to shove their hands down their dates pants, cause at least that didn't involve a lighted screen that could be seen from space. /rant
Maybe it's just a cultural thing that they like seafood. Anecdotal evidence, but I've noticed many blacks at Papadeaux's, another seafood restaurant. I've noticed very few blacks in sushi restaurants, though, so maybe it's not all seafood.
I dont feel uncomfortable around black folks. I was just asking if its true that black people goto Red Lobster a lot.
Every time I see a post from you that says "blacks" I immediately assume you're racist. I wonder why that is...
