Does anyone really think CP3 will play his whole contract out here with the Rockets? I think he will be traded away before its done.

Rockets will one way or another get rid of Cp3. 20 years from now everyone will remember what a cheap ass owner the Rockets had .The only hope is NBA will somehow get the Rockets another owner.

Thanks for passing on the info and explaining @justtxyank.

So basically, don’t expect anything to happen before Feb 21st?

Don't doubt Morey and team have run the numbers on these scenarios. Capela is currently at 25.8 dreb% and 62.6% on free throws. Clint hitting 65% on free throws is probably more likely than getting to 30% dreb% at this point. Clint is averaging 7.6 dreb per game. Giannis is at 30% dreb and plays similar minutes, he averages 10.2 drebs. For Clint to improve his average dreb per game from 7.6 to 10.2 he would have to go on a dominant rebounding streak to finish the season.

My guess is the Morey/Tillman are rooting hard for the team to make the wcf. They are probably also rooting for Clint to make all of his bonuses, if he does we will likely be contenders this year and in large part due to Capela's domimant play. That's something they're willing to pay luxury tax and start the repeater clock for.

Player$' agents are not stupid. They will eventually figure out what's up with the Rockets regarding their intentional financial constraints and steer their clients away. Rockets are lucky to have signed Rivers, Faried and Shump. Morey should be given A LOT OF CREDIT. Dude is working with a gun pointed to his head.

And if he does, Tilman has to root for us not to make the WCF.

I think the Rockets probably have a nifty move to get us under the Repeater Tax even If Clint does reach his narks. I would be amazzzzzzzed If we pay the tax this year.

Isn't this very similar to what another poster had posted here?

Alternative title: [BimaThug] Why the Rockets signing buyout candidates is unlikely

    LOL Broke ass Tillman.

Remember when the homers said the Rockets are saving their remaining MLE(~$3M) for buyout candidates? :D

From my understanding, Capela can hit his incentives and we would still be good. If he doesn't hit his numbers we have more wiggle room and can sign an additional player. The 13, 14, and 15th player isn't going to make a difference on a MDA squad.

If the difference between luxury tax and no luxury tax is making the WCF, we’ll have Tillman actively rooting for his own team to lose in the playoffs hahahaha

Don't twist this and crelate a false narrative. His tweet said there is wiggle room if Clint doesn't hit his bonus. Meaning they can do it even if Clint gets his bonus.

A few years ago everyone on that board and the media were saying nobody wants to play for Morey because he calls players assets. These days everyone calls tradeable players assets. People on this board are like LeBron questioning teams about loyalty when you would trade your teammates in a heartbeat.

Could someone-- like, say, CP3-- restructure their contract and solve this luxury tax problem?

The Warriors are over here signing a 5th All-Star after 3 chips and we are not paying a two way player to make it even harder to get to our first finals.

It's pathetic that this is what the Rockets have come to. Someone(I forget who) pointed out on Twitter yesterday that the Thunder have said the hell with worrying about the luxury tax and are fully committed to putting a contending team out there on the court. Meanwhile the Rockets who are in a much bigger market than Oklahoma City and coming off of a Semifinals and WCF appearance(vs OKC who have 2 straight first round drubbings) are nickel and diming their way to an early playoff exit in order to save Tilman a few million dollars.

And before anyone responds with "but the Rockets can now spend more in the next 2-3 seasons", sorry, but I don't buy that for a second. Maybe Tilman will surprise us all and throw caution(and his wallet) to the wind in the years to come and actually invest money in this team, but I ain't holding my breath. It sure seems like this is a guy who inherited a really good roster that was one game away from a title and naively thinks he can maintain that level of success without committing any money.

Oh I didn't know there's a stretch deadline. Buyout doesn't reduce your cap number so that's not an option.

At least match the Warriors spending.
