I thought it would be good to have a separate thread for any rumors/updates on Brien's coaching staff.

    Assistant head coach/WR Coach:

"Stan Hixon, the Nittany Lions’ assistant head coach and wide receivers coach, informed the parents of wide receiver commit De’Andre Thompkins on Wednesday morning that he will be headed with O’Brien to the Texans. "

O' Brien is apparently interested in hiring Jim Tomsula (49er's D-line coach) as our defensive coordinator.

Seems like that would mean we're going back to a 4-3, no?

    The 49ers play a 3-4 defense.

Tomsula seems like an odd hire if true. No ties to O'Brien and his only experience outside of 49ers DL coach was in NFL Europe.

Jim Tomsula....??? Great move...!!! He's been the D-Line coach in San Francisco for years and that is a good coached up defense with good schemes. Bringing in Tomsula means O'Brien won't have to worry about the defense. Tomsula is head coaching material and will be great for J.J.

O'Brien is making much better moves than Kubiak did out the gate.

Godsey seems to be a done deal according to a guy that seems to be in the know.

Great... Hopefully they'll go out and find them a big fast and athletic tight end... Preferably one who is not a murderer tho.

QB/TE with our first two picks could make our offense very dynamic. I really like Amaro if he makes it to 33.

Tomsula has been in San Francisco since 2007 and Mike Singletary was a 3-4 guy as well.

i read Tomsula was sought after by a few teams as possible HC. so to get him might be a pretty big victory in itself

Say what you want about Wade, but the man is one of the best soundbites in sports.

I didn't know he was a head coach in Europe until I read up on him. Interesting that it says he had the #1 run defense in Europe and when the 49ers fired Singletary they made Tomsula the intern head coach (and they won that game big). And their pass rush and run defense has gotten better every year since Tomsula got there and they lost one of their top pass rushers to injury last year and one to suspension this year and didn't miss a beat. A lot of things have changed in San Fran but him and that front 7 has always been good. The Texans hiring him would not be frowned upon.

I'm excited about him coming in. Just raises my eyebrow and makes me wonder if they will go with Clowney or trade down and take Barr.
