I disagree. Given the circumstances @ PSU, O'Brien's work has been nothing short of elite.

Forget his work at Penn State.

Being involved in the meteoric rise of the Patriots offense 2007-2011 is enough in itself.

Nobody is a sure thing, but of all the resumes I'm willing to take a chance on, that's a good one.

Very excited to hear that they went after him and might get him.

Hopefully they get their scouting staff shaped up and start hitting above 0.750 in the draft - the number one thing you have to do for continual success.

 

Doesn't take a genius to figure out that's exactly why. If you interview someone you feel is the ideal candidate why in gods name would you waste your time "expanding the candidate pool"???

Not sure if you realize this or not but B O'B is one of the hottest coaching prospects in the country.

Are you aware of what was going on at Penn St before he got there?

 

The Lions went 9-4 in '11. Obrien kept them afloat.

I just hope we're not jumping the gun.

 

They lost their kicker, best receiver, best running back and about 10 more players. They lost 2 games because of the kicker. Guy turned some pretty average talent into a very competitive team without a drop off. Plus he has tons of NFL experience.

 

Yeah, they also lost their long-time head coach, were racked by scandal and lost a ton of their very talented players to other schools.

Also worth mentioning that he somehow managed to bring in one of the most impressive quarterback prospects in the nation despite all of the NCAA sanctions.

The guy straight up knows how to coach and lead a team.

 

I like the aggression shown by McNair and Smith here. They're not screwing around. They interviewed the two highest profile candidates before the season was over, and appear to be signing one of them by the end of the weekend. Regardless of the results, bravo for the strategy.

Yep. All of them transferred to other schools because of the Sandusky scandal.
