Won't presume to speak for everyone but I don't know how anyone can have a conclusion after 2 weeks for a guy recovering from knee injury!

Well, it sure looks like it because Beverley is not playing good team defense. He doesn't know when to help or not, is slow to switch, and his height and reach is not bothering the opponents enough even when he closes out on the shooters. Individual defense is not much better; what kind of 'defense specialist' lets his man blow by him that easily and becomes useless against one screen setter? That's like Lillard-level bad, and we treat this guy as one of our defensive anchors, smh.

There is a huge difference between hustle and playing good defense. Beverley has deluded a lot of people of the latter with the former.

We can agree to disagree, no problem. I don't think Manu is a great example. SA had TONS of talent to take that hit. We don't.

    Yes exactly.

Beverley's defense has and always will be overrated. It's honestly just not good. Especially the last two seasons.

That said, it seems apparent that this year his defense is better than in the past two seasons. I think we've just had some bad games against a couple of amped up opponents recently so that's skewing those numbers (since he's been back) a bit.

I also think that Beverley brings a lot of intangibles and makes a lot of "winning plays" that are not easily replaceable.

Regardless if people on this board want Gordon to start or not, he's vital to the bench group. He's a very injury prone player and if you have him playing more minutes than he currently is already you're putting our entire team at risk because as Anderson and Gordon have shown through their tenures on the Pelicans, they're always going to be injured. It's unfortunately a matter of time so to reduce these risks you sort of need to play a PG to start.

Beverley isn't a lock down defender, I mean I see that and I'm rooting for the guy. Harden's putting in a little more effort on the defensive end but the ones who are the most vital to the defense are Capela and Anderson. Anderson just needs to either block out when Capela goes for a block or he needs to try to rebound the ball. Capela's inexperience has shown at times but he's definitely getting better. I think you really have to start Beverley with this current team, he's definitely not the best person to come off the bench.

IF Dmo gets resigned then maybe I could agree with having Gordon start, with Dmo and Beverley coming off the bench. Heck maybe even have a line up: Gordon/Harden/Ariza/Dmo/Capela with Anderson/Beverley/filler come off the bench could work on some nights. Once Beverley starts hitting his random few floaters and 3's a game everything'll mesh properly again. For now... just ride it out with the rest of us!

Can't take anyone's opinion on Beverley seriously if they don't even know how to spell his name. You expect me to buy into your analysis when you don't even know how to spell the guy's name..smh

Weird connection there. I'm sure everyone should learn to spell 'Giannis Antetokounmpo' first, otherwise they have no right to comment on his game. LOL

Not sure I agree with this last part. I mean, he does bring a lot of intangibles and makes "winning plays"... but I do think they are replaceable. Every team has guys like this. Many teams have guys like this with more talent, too. It's basically the description of the effective, solid career role player. Even horrible teams have these guys - except its harder to tell in that case since it isn't contributing to winning.

Now, IF HEALTHY, with his contract, he's a nice have.

I think they are replaceable as well. I meant more that they are not easily replaceable on our team as constructed, due to reasons such as fit and cap hit.

I agree with your last sentence fully.

Another problem Beverley has is that he is very injury prone and often rushes back from injury to the detriment of himself and the team. I also think this is one of the reason his defense and hustle suffered the past few years.
