I dig up the old Houston Oilers Ernest Givins flip from youtube. The first time I'd ever seen that type of play (except his landing was a lot more painful lol) {6:30 to 7:05} <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/IyjUCgrOcVA&start=392&end=435"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/IyjUCgrOcVA&start=392&end=435" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
Just have to say it is not the best catch of the year. It may be one of the best RUN AFTER CATCH of the year with Gronk's and few others though.
Gronk didn't stick the landing and was so doozy that he almost forgot his trademark spike. If you're referring to the catch and run td I think you're referring to.
That was a normal catch. He was pretty wide open. I think I could have caught it. Great flip 20 yards later though!
Givins's flip was actually unintentional. His leap was, but on the way up the defender's helmet hit his thigh to cause the flip like a "Rosencopter" type thing except head over feet. It gave him a deep thigh bruise so thats why he was hobbling, he was hurt before he even landed If he didnt get the bruise, maybe he mighta been able to stick a landing. On another closeup view of the play, Givins's teammates were non-expressive about the play shrugging their shoulders like whatever like they were watching the punter. Givins did plenty craziness in games, desensitized to it lol. I'd give Simpson's catch the edge for best run-after-catch TD.
Also what is amazing is that, he holds the ball with one hand, does the flip, does an amazing landing, and he is holding the ball with only one hand. very impressive.
