Having trouble thinking of many good ones. I assume most songs about Texas are cheesy pop-country or un-listenable modern rap. Got to be some good outlaw country or old blues songs about Texas, but they are escaping me at the moment. Eh, here's one.
Texas Moon by the church One more day, I may forget my reason Some would say we bathed like a harpoon Followed politely south, it feels like treason Live out my days beneath the Texas moon Started out a cardshark in Palm City Playing for another tablespoon Lost my fancy vest and both my kidneys Two red jacks and one red Texas moon I met a bunch of fools in Oklahoma Their leader was a loathsome old baboon He had those rascals hooked on homemade soma Hooked on that, yeah, and the Texas moon He knew a house that opened up in Dallas I'll stick it in her darkened, sweetened room She said, "I pray you can't accept that fallacy" "But lie down here and feel the Texas moon" Crying is no substitute for laughter I would have felt, but now I'm feeling used I'm hellbent for the here and everafter Cold white fire like the Texas moon And I expect to find life there unpleasant My exit will be most inopportune I'm leaving while I can see this crescent The crescent of the ghostly Texas moon It can't be any hotter than this jail It can't be any colder than this mood It can't be any deader than a doornail Or half as live as the Texas moon Mother, send no flowers for my passing Surely life is just one long lampoon Brother, end your vigilance and your fasting I'm going down beneath the Texas moon
Another week in the drivers seat With your feet up on the dashboard Rain it kept a steady beat As I watch you dream of Houston How you're never going back Yes sir that's a fact As you wave your cowboy hat And sang the Yellow Rose of Texas Just trying to make high ground Has kept us on the run There's no crime in toeing the line Because vultures aren't on us baby And we're gonna walk in the sun I might dream about Houston But Houston don't dream about me If I can keep it between the lines Who knows what will be Loose change days and motel nights Day old coffee dollar post cards State troopers flashing lights As we listen to the thunder As we talked about our past So we see our coming future You tell me you know love can last While staring out the window Just lookin' for A place to hide A place to ease our minds A place away from yesterday Close to tomorrow Away from the sorrows Of living other people's time
Bales of Cocaine Well, I was workin' on my farm 'bout 1982 Pullin' up some corn and a little carrot, too When two low-flying airplanes, 'bout a hundred feet high Dropped a bunch o' bales o' somethin', some hit me in the eye... So I cut a bale open, and man was I surprised Bunch o' large sized baggies, with big white rocks inside So I took a little sample to my crazy brother Joe He sniffed it up and kicked his heels, said, "Horton, that's some blow!" Bales of cocaine, fallin' from low-flyin' planes I don't know who done dropped 'em but I thank 'em just the same Bales of cocaine, fallin' like the pouring rain My life changed completely by the low-flyin' plane So I loaded up them bales in my pick-em-up truck Headed west for Dallas, where I would try my luck I didn't have a notion if I could sell 'em there But, thirty minutes later, I was a millionaire ... Bales of cocaine, fallin' from low-flyin' planes I don't know who done dropped 'em but I thank 'em just the same Bales of cocaine, fallin' like the pouring rain My life changed completely by the low-flyin' plane And now I am a rich man, but I'm still a farmer, too But I sold my farm in Texas, bought a farm down in Peru And when get so homesick, I think I'm goin' insane I travel back to Texas in a low-flyin' plane ... Bales of cocaine, fallin' from low-flyin' planes I don't know who done dropped 'em but I thank 'em just the same Bales of cocaine, fallin' like the pouring rain My life changed completely by the low-flyin' plane Not about Texas per se, but being in a full-blown Texas Psychobilly freakout:
Pretty much any song from this album, including this one that sounds suspiciously like another song on the same subject that came a couple of decades later.
Ok, the song doesn't actually say Texas in it, BUT everyone knows Money was thinking of Texas when he sang "Paradise"... Htown,Texas to be more unambiguous... Nice thread Mr. Buckle.. ....... ....... ....... .
