I have to go with Shipley's just because they are so good when they are fresh. But Krispy Kreme is a really close second for me and they still taste good even a day later.

Interesting.... how do you tell whether a location is a franchise or corporate store?

Best regular glazed doughnut ever had is made by Yummy donuts in La Porte, TX. It is in the shopping center on the corner of Underwood and Spencer Hwy

For those interested, another Krispy Kreme is opening soon on Westheimer and Dunvale, where the Arby's used to be.

    Don't concern me none though, Shipley's 4Life

If I say Dunkin Donuts, does it reveal my East Coast upbringing?

Shipley's donuts that are fresh and hot should be illegal.

I know for a fact that there's crack in them.

Dunkin because the glaze isn't overly sweet like the others.

Didn't read thru the responses, but if it hasn't been said yet then let me declare Shipley's off 610 and Ella is hands down THE BEST!!

It's noticeably better than other Shipley's, I don't know how they do it, but it's much softer and trust me you will notice the difference, they're even boxed differently, laid out flat (like KK) rather than standing up. It may be one of the original Shipleys because it doesn't even have the corporate franchise sign, it's just a big donut with old generic block lettering that says shipleys. There's usually a small line of traffic backed up on Ella due to the line of cars waiting to pull in.

Do yourself a favor and make the drive to this particular location.

There is also a new Krispy Kreme opening up by the Dairy Queen on Highway 6 just south of Little York.

I don't eat donuts much anymore, but I am officially burned out on Shipley's. I just can't do it anymore. I could probably never eat one again and be fine. :(

Absolutely! They stay open really late and they constantly have someone back there making fresh donuts. Old, weird looking building, but it's the best Shipley's I've ever been to.
