I bet you said the same thing about the electability of Obama, didn't you? Also, if you think Sanders would lose to Trump (the current frontrunner for the Republican nomination), then you are wither insane or you are living in the past. A more reasonable candidate from the Republicans would probably beat Sanders -- but Trump has zero chance of winning a general election...yes, even less chance than an elderly Jewish man who calls himself a socialist.
I highly doubt Trump wins the nomination but even if he does, Sanders is an admitted SOCIALIST. Please let him win.
Republicans are rooting for Sanders and Dems are rooting for Trump. What a crazy, mixed up country! Neither will win.
I think Americans are more willing to vote for an elderly Jewish self professed Socialist than Trump. How about a friendly tip jar bet? If Sanders and Trump both win the nomination, we do 20 or 50 dollar bet to the tip jar -- me winning if Sanders does, you winning if Trump does? Full disclosure by the way, I am not a Democrat, Republican or a Sanders supporter and I also don't think Sanders will win the Democratic primary (though I'd prefer if he did). I just think your guess on who will win in the above scenario is wrong to the point of being delusional.
I certainly am. I'd actively campaign for whoever won the Democratic nomination if Trump won the Republican nomination.
Ha -- you are bizarro me. Neither of us have a horse in the race, but you are very conservative and I am very far to the left of Bernie. Ok cool, bet is on. See, folks like you saying things like that are what is causing me to be so certain that Trump has zero chance of winning a general election. You know Bobby Magnus, I don't agree with you on much, but I'm glad to see you consistently critique Trump around here. I am obviously not a fan of Republicans, but even I am disappointed in them for Trump's success thus far. The guy is not a conservative, his entire movement has the smell of Stormfront and White Nationalism. It actually quite concerns me.
I don't know about the "White Nationalism" talk, but for the most part I'm right there with you. I'm not the biggest fan of Republicans, but the fact that Trump is still on top just lowers my opinion of them by the day. I generally end up siding with them on a lot of issues, but guys like Trump and Christie are a reminder that I'm absolutely not a Republican. Give me the socialist over either of those two any day.
Awe isn't that nice. CW is stalking me. You are correct that I am a Cruz supporter. I never claimed I wasn't. I do not affiliate with any party though. I am not registered as a Republican, Democrat, Tea Party etc.... I do however vote for the most conservative candidate which has had me voting for Democrats in my lifetime in local elections. Also, I have never contributed a dime to any candidate but am seriously considering contributing to Ted Cruz this primary.
it's so interesting. cruz is most likely the last person i would vote for. i would maybe even vote for trump before him. which would perhaps make the usa the laughing stock of the entire world.
Yeah, I think I see Cruz as maybe a step up from Trump or Christie, but there's no way in hell I'd vote for him. I just wouldn't actively campaign for the Democratic nominee as a result of him winning the Republican nomination....I would either vote 3rd party or not at all. In truth, there's not many Republican candidates I'd actually vote for this time around.
You don't affiliate with Republicans because you are far to the right of the Republican Party, ie scary. Honesty is the best policy kid.
Bernie Sanders overtakes Hillary Clinton in Iowa Wow, I really didn't think Sanders would have a chance, but it looks like the dislike for Hillary Clinton that I have is very much shared in this country. I'm not a Sanders supporter per se, but I sure like him a lot more than Hillary, and I think a Sanders campaign would definitely improve the level of political dialogue in this country. Also, I think he can beat Trump, and I really really don't want a Trump presidency. That guy seems like a proto fascist to me (nationalistic and racist reactionary rhetoric , pro-big business, but also pro-big government and welfare state).
For whatever reason, Sanders has little appeal to too many key regions and demographics. NH and Iowa are two of the whitest states in the country and really fit him well. Both are very small states, and Iowa is a caucus which works in his favor, while NH is in his backyard. Even if he does well in those two, he's likely to get crushed in South Carolina and Nevada. Assuming no Biden (not sure what he does to the dynamics), Clinton will crush him in the south, west, and all the big states. His only real path to the nomination is by default: Clinton has a mega-scandal and Biden doesn't run. He also has been essentially ignored by Clinton and the media at this point - no one has actually gone after him, so he hasn't really been scrutinized at all. Many of his positions are too easy to distort and demonize in sound bites.
Yeah, I'm not saying he will win the nomination, just that be has a real chance and is doing a lot better than I expected. His trajectory from obscurity to contender actually closely mirrors Obama's in 08 if you graph it out.
I had guessed that Sanders' campaign results would be similar to Ron Paul's previous run, who came in a close third in 2012. Here's to hoping Bernie has even better success than Paul. http://elections.nytimes.com/2012/primaries/states/iowa
If Sanders wins the Democratic nomination and Trump wins the Republican nomination, you can bet that America will absolutely vote in a socialist.
Ha, I did indeed bet just that on this very page of this thread. Maybe if Republicans hadn't spent the last 8 years trying to convince the public that the wall street supported moderate Obama is a socialist then people wouldn't be so mentally open to the idea of electing an actually self-avowed socialist.
