Remember when he and Boozer beat Yao and TMac? It's a completely different era now. One where superstars don't even last a decade.
Deron has depressed dramatically. Dude was lights out a stud in his prime in Utah. Now that he has surrounded himself with stars he cannot match his prime. Sad story.
Like one poster said, it would be a high-risk trade, but if D-will stays healthy, it would be amazing. He's been shooting the best in his career and is ten times the floor general Lin or Bev is. And even if he get's injured, we'd have Bev, Brooks and Canaan to back him up (which would be the exact same rotation we have now). I posted this in the trade thread, but if we trade Asik and Lin for D-Will, sign Bynum, and then trade D-Mo, Brewer and 2nd round for Dunleavy, we'd be amazing. Deron/Beverley/Canaan Harden/Garcia/Brooks Parsons/Dunleavy Jones/Casspi/Covington Howard/Bynum/Smith
The interest in DWill was probably most likely agent driven IMO. Remember back at the beginning of the season when there were reports that Dwight was less than thrilled (as most of us were/are) with the PG situation long term in Houston? You'd have to think that those reports surfaced due to agent talk around the league fueled by Fegen, and that led to talks between Houston and Brooklyn about DWill. Morey has always been a guy who tediously evaluated risk in virtually every deal he's made... big or small, and for someone that concerned with risk, you'd have to think that the D-Will contract would rank up there with the likes of "Amaresque" risk if injuries continue to hamper his career. Most likely Morey did his research, sat on the potential of doing a deal at deadline, and now can go back to Fegen to present him his case for no longer pursuing DWill.... which probably led to this report coming out. This guy does his homework, and other GM's know this as well and will take note that if Morey is scared off by this guys ankles, its probably a good idea to keep away as well.
Morey should be chasing the DWill. We don't have the luxury of backing away from a player like that. He may not be performing at his Utah level. But he's still clearly a upgrade over our current PG situation. If Morey thinks we're gonna get a better choice, he's dreaming. DWill, Howard & Harden is a legitimate big 3 that could contend
or better opportunities may have presented themselves. if bledsoe's surgery leads to a fore sale/tank job. with a few moves the rockets can add the suns' main core in dragic, tucker, and frye (shooting and perimeter defense) without giving up any starters of their own.
Sure... in theory, but there is a huge risk in the undertaking of acquiring DWill. If Morey thinks his body and his contract could potentially become Amare 2.0 than his limited salary cap left after Dwight/James might best be spent on other players. If Morey was to lock up his roster with Harden/Howard/Dwill and nothing but minimum salary players for the next 3 to 5 years, and DWill ends up never being healthy enough to play for a full season it would spell disaster for this team's title hopes.
2 Things: 1) This could just be Morey/Rockets trying to lower DWill's value. Obviously it would take more than Lin/Asik to make a trade work. 2) Morey has always had a plan at PG, and he seems to have an eye for the right players. Brooks was MIP. Lowry and Dragic look like All-Stars. Lin has been servicable, and Beverley came out of nowhere. With Llull and Canaan as potential long term options, plus Lin and Bev's bird rights, PG seems to be the least favorable position to invest significant cap into unless you can get a superstar with no issues.
