Though it'd be uncharacteristic for Rich Devos and family to come down hard on a relatively recent hire, nobody would be all that surprised (or upset) if the Magic dumped GM John Weisbrod. If, for no other reason than keeping socially diseased Stacey Augmon on the premises after his lewd and crude behavior directed at the Magic media.

The meat of the matter: Weisbrod's disastrous coaching substitute of trainee Chris Jent for Johnny Davis (an affront to the profession regardless of whether it proved successful) and terrible trade of Cutino Mobley for Doug Christie.

Of course, conjecturing that Weisbrod will be asked to get the puck outta Orlando may be nothing more than wishful thinking by league counterparts who weren't charmed, I'm sure, by his chest pounding when the Magic were winning big early this season and celebration of Tracy McGrady's stutter start in Houston.

April 12, 2005 -- CONTRARY to reports, Tom Izzo is not among Dan Gilbert's candidates to coach the Cavaliers.

Somebody in the media simply made a State of Michigan connection (Gilbert's from there), jumped to conclusions and a legion of lemmings repeated the inaccuracy — par for the course in my indolent industry.

As a matter of fact, no college coach is under consideration by Gilbert until further notice. NBA accreditation is infinitely more desirable. For example, according to a Midwest source, Chuck Daly was approached regarding his interest in coaching the Cavs ... again; Cleveland is where he got his pro start under Ted Stepien, lasting all of 41 games (9-32) in '81-82.

Daly asked the contact about Gilbert's finances. "He's got a lot of money," the guy assured Chuck, who then declared: "He'll need it. He's going to lose a lot of money."

One of the most dishonest remarks of all time was uttered the other day by Greg Anthony, who stated how happy he is in his role as an ESPN studio analyst, adding he has no desire to become an NBA GM at this time.

That's known as lying through your teeth, instantly elevating Anthony to leading candidate for executive of the year.

In other words, pilgrims, Gilbert hasn't as much as faked making him an offer to replace Jim Paxson.

The day Anthony turns down a chance to run a roster is the day Stephen A. Smith says something faintly intelligent, thought-provoking or original.

Though it'd be uncharacteristic for Rich Devos and family to come down hard on a relatively recent hire, nobody would be all that surprised (or upset) if the Magic dumped GM John Weisbrod. Sebastian Telfair's emergence to para-prominence since Maurice Cheeks walked the plank may have earned John Nash another contract instead of costing him his job, as many had projected when he drafted the Lincoln H.S. prodigy at No. 13.

That and the signing of Joel Przybilla for chump change; $1.5M and $1.56M next season. Is there any doubt who'll start for the Blazers and be their star shot blocker/rebounder next season? Making Theo Ratliff ($11.6M times three) readily available, I would think, as incentive to accept Derek ($9M/9.74M) Anderson as part of the package.

Meanwhile, imagine how infatuated Paul Allen would be with Nash had he pulled off the dubious (near) trade for Vince Carter! At the same time, had Raptor GM Rob Babcock taken the Blazer deal, far better by all accounts than the Nets' schlock, we wouldn't be wondering whether his Toronto days are dwindling down to a precious few.

Glenn Robinson began this season with the 76ers and didn't play a single second before being transferred to the Hornets on Feb. 24 for Jamal Mashburn and Rodney Rogers. He wanted no part of Philly the moment Jim O'Brien notified him rookie Andre Iguodala had beaten him out for the starting small-forward spot. Robinson had less use for New Orleans and vice versa, thus was waived March 1 following a contract buyout.

Sure enough, just like Jimmy Jackson and Alonzo Mourning, a solid contender came to the rescue and The Big Doggin' It signed with the Spurs last week.

The Players Association's new motto: Pout, then prepare to reroute.

How studly is Shaq? He sat out (third in row) Sunday, and the Heat and Lakers both lost.

The Red Sox raised their World Series flag before yesterday's home opener. Try as he might, Red Auerbach couldn't get any credit for it.

This guy is just a pure HATER!! I don't understand why he ALWAYS goes out of his way to spew hate/jealousy towards other people. What the HECK did Stephen A. or G-Anthony do to him to piss him off like that?!!

Yah, well, I guess he is just trying to be, as always, 'controversial' to sell the NYPost some copies.

The guy is full of venom for everyone who doesn't grant him access all the time or praise him all the time. What a loser!
