Since the going trend in the Hangout seems to be making poll threads, I pose this question to you. What would you do if you were the Mets last night versus Albert Pujols with the bases loaded?

Quick recap: Top of the 10th, 8-7 St. Louis, based loaded, two outs with Pujols coming to the plate.

We all know the outcome. The question is: was that the right thing to do? What do you do if you're Jerry Manuel? Do you pitch to the best player in baseball with the bases stacked or do you intentionally walk him thereby conceding a run?

    you're already losing.

you pitch to him and hope for the best. walking in the next run kills the game...you hope you pitch to him and he doesn't get all of it.

Agreed, MadMax. I just got done watching Around the Horn and PTI where the majority seems to think you should never pitch to him in that situation. I'm with you on this one. With two outs and down already you have to give yourself the best chance stay in the game. Giving the Cards a free run only buries you deeper.

It really depends how he is going...most of the time walk him because he will hurt you but if he is going bad just pitch to him carefully. Saying that, Manual got burned by doing that last night but he should have seen it coming as Pujols already had two hits before the blasts!

    WALK HIM

The same K-Rod that blew a save that very same game? :p

But yeah, I understand your point normally.

Actually, there's a 55.4% chance of his PA not resulting in at least one run.

And the odds of the Mets scoring 2 runs...well, they average less than half a run an inning, so not good.

You have to pitch to him, but don't serve up no taters.

His OBP is .446, so there is only a 55% chance he will fail.

I wonder if it's higher with the bases loaded.

In any case, you pitch to him. Down 2 runs you probably lose the game for sure.

Different situation. Showalter's team was leading by 2 with 2 out in the 9th.

The score was also 8-6 in favor of Arizona, not losing like the Mets were.

omg getting flashbacks....is this game 5 in the 05 playoffs? :(
this is why i strongly dislike pujols. if u trust ur pitcher (like the way they supposedly did with lidge) then u just pitch to him. *sigh* the guy is jus too good.
