Definitely. It's gotten to the point where I don't really care who the Rockets draft. As long as the player is willing to better themselves, they're okay in my book.

That being said, Rivers said in an interview: "It shouldn't be about how high you go, it should be about where you go."

Rivers confirmed for not liking DC.

The Rockets will need to replace Kmart soon. We will need a guy that can get 25 on any given night. The chance to get that guy with a #16 pick doesn't happen often but Rivers offers that potential (with the risk to 'team play' and chemistry)

Without a trade up Rivers looks like the only 25 PPG we can get. If there were two big time rebounders on the board at #14 I might take Rivers there.

They'd have to want Scola and, uh, Dalembert (waivable contract?) and, um, Morris, and, um, the #14 pick----or Scola, Martin, and the #14---and we'd have to take Rashard (excuse me, won't you? BLARF!) along with the #3.

But if we wound up with a Brad Beal.... :)

Although, if I were Washington, Beal or MKG might be too good to miss out on.

Gawd, please, draft, get here and save the other posters from my random trade crap.

Here is a most unimpressive video of a workout by a few lotto picks.

Austin Rivers will be the immediate impact a team needs if they are looking to tank.

didn't watch enough Duke ball this year to know how good he is, but one thing's for sure: he sure thinks he's good.

I think he lacks the skill to consistently do well in shooting drills.

Sometimes while he's chucking, he will make some consecutive shots. That convinces people that he will be something other than a streaky scorer at best.

Another large chunk of his admirers have never actually seen him play in anything other than a highlight reel. Not much you can do to deter them. They didn't even need to see his game to be convinced.

And that is what worries me most about Rivers. Is it an entitlement thing?

Nobody wants to play for Portland. They like their knees too much.

There seems to be some sort of massive misconception about confidence.

Yes, confidence is essential for any player to be successful. Regardless, being confident/cocky does not mean you WILL be successful.

Rivers is not effecient from the field. He is streaky at best.
Rivers is not effecient from the free throw line. 66% from the line
Rivers in not effecient as ball handler. More turnovers than assists.
Rivers is undersized, with poor length for a shooting guard.

These are all things that confidence does not fix. Confidence will not make you a consistent shooter. It will not make you a better ball handler. It will not make you taller.

However, this isn't enough for most people here. He's confident, so they will continue to believe that will make him a better basketball player once pro's are guarding him instead of college kids.

Let me say that I do think he has a future in the NBA. Our D-League team would be great for a prospect like him.

Problem is, much less outspoken players than him whine about it. Regardless of how effective it may be. He's far from ready to contribute significantly. Years.

Then you would also remember it wasn't a proper workout just an informal shootaround that he had after a weights session.

All of these things can be approved.. (except the length), and confidence can help in the improvement. I honestly think he's more fit for the NBA game more so than the college game. I highly doubt he will be a superstar, but he reminds me of a Jamal Crawford type player.

That's still staking risks. Most streaky college shooters make streaky college NBA players.

I've only watched Terrence Ross once, but Lamb and Rivers about a dozen each. Lamb and Ross have MUCH better size, and they are better shooters at this point. They offer the upside Rivers does with fantastic athleticism, only fewer negative aspects to overcome at the next level.

Again, I do think Rivers can be a good player if developed properly, but his "ifs" are too big for my liking.

There were only 4 guys in the entire NBA that averaged 25 ppg or better this season. Odds are the nobody from this draft will be a 25 ppg scorer, let alone somebody available at #14.
