Austin Rivers is quietly having one of the worst seasons of all time. I present to you, the month of January for Mr. Rivers: 3.3 ppg, 1 reb, 1.5 ast, 1 TO, 0 blk, 0.3 stl 28% FG, 15.8% 3PT, 39% FT PER 5.3 Granted, this is in 15.3 min per game, but when he was getting 23 min a game earlier in the season, things weren't much better. He is currently finishing only 35% of his shots AT THE RIM. Clearly he has to get better, but this is a pretty rough start to his career. There was an article posted a couple of months into the season on ESPN Insider mentioning how he was on pace to have the worst season in the NBA since the three point shot was created, and he has actually gotten WORSE since then. What do you guys think about this guy? Still too early to tell what his ceiling is but it looks pretty low right now...
LOL its weird that you post this cuz i was just looking at his stats 20 minutes ago and thinking the same thing.
Glad we didnt have a chance to take him with our pick. 75%+ of fellow CFers wanted him! YIKES (Future Luther Head in the making?)
after reading that article early in the season, i watched him closely during our games with the Hornets. there were so many bad things he was doing that didn't even show up on the stat sheet. it is truly painful to watch, and i'm sure Doc is not pleased...
I can't believe the Hornets took him with number 10. He's a late 1st rounder at best, and the Hornets didn't need a shooting guard, and even if they did Lamb was still on the board. They could have took Leonard, or traded the pick.
It looked like he lost the game for the Hornets last night. They were on a run that cut it to 4 and Lakers were on a scoring spell but Austin Rivers dribble the ball forever and then drove in against a bunch of defenders and got stripped which led to an easy fast break score on the other side. On the next possession he did iso'd again and drove in but just missed it terribly. That halted all of their momentum. Why was he even out there?
He's so bad that he has a negative win share. Royce White literally did more for the Rockets on the court than Rivers did for the Hornets.
It's awful seeing a former Blue Devil struggling like this. Hope he gets it together sooner than later!
Maybe it reflects more on the quality of coaching at Duke that they're able to be successful without the kind of talent of schools like Kansas or Kentucky. Duke tends to have fewer 1-and-dones as well.
