What's a nice place for about 4-5 couples to eat dinner? Something semi-formal but nothing too casual.
That's a pretty good sized group. Did you have any particular cuisine in mind? If you're thinking downtown, there's: Sullivan's (steak) Truluck's (steak and seafood) The Melting Pot (fondue) The Clay Pit (contemporary Indian) Fogo de Chao (Brazilian steak) III Forks (steak) Eddie V's (seafood) Roaring Fork Outside of downtown, there's a few places near the Arboretum as well like Z-Tejas, which is a personal favorite of mine.
Crazy...I was just coming here to post a similar thread. Need some new ideas on the north side. Trying to decide between Joe DiMaggio's, Jaspers, and Gumbo's.
Might also want to look into Cool River, but it's really gone downhill over the last 4-5 years to be honest. There's a Kona Grill in the Domain as well, I believe, but I've never been to it.
Green Pastures - Steaks and quality dining Guerros - Great Tex Mex Fonde San Miguel - Central Mexican food Gumbos - Cajun Flemings - Better steaks than Sullivans Geoffreys - Another great steak house Austin Land and Cattle - Another great steak house Hudsons on the Bend - Wild game DD
That's a whole lot of restaurants lol. I'm strapped for time (need it for tonight) so which one would I be able to get a reservation short notice? The Melting Pot sounds like something new that would be interesting to try. However, I'm not familiar with these places so just give me a quality pick!
The Melting Pot is great, if you dig spending $60 per person (plus tip) for some raw meat and stale bread.
Done the Cool River thing. Highly overrated and over priced. Thinking about Joe D's, Kona, or Daily Grill... Melting Pot is a chick place. It's no where for a self-respecting male to eat. Fondue. That's their menu.
The only other Joe D's location is a few blocks from me here in SF, and it's supposed to be excellent, but a tad pricier than say Trulucks and Sullivan's. Entrees are around $40-$45, so with appetizers and drinks expect to pay around $80 per person.
One of the best meals I ever had was at Shoreline Grill in Austin. Crab-topped filet. MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
Out of those I would pick Gumbo's. Jaspers sucks crap and is expensive. My sister in law used to work there.
i feel like i'm the only person who has ever been to Ranch 616... it's easily one of my favorite restaurants in austin. 7th and nueces.
