My wife's 29th birthday is this weekend and we plan on going out on Lake Traivs during the day and going out in Austin at night. Anyone have recommendations on a few places go out to celebrate her b-day?

You'll have to narrow it down a bit. There are hundreds of bars of every variety (pub, club, rock, country, punk, dive, swank, etc.)...

    Don't go to 6th Street...not if you are 29.

I've had a great time on 4th Street. (I think it was 4th)

Obviously people that are locals can give you better advice.

That area is a long drive from Lake Travis, though. Not sure if Lake Travis has anything other than a Carlos and Charlie's

Are they still open? That was one of my favorite happy hour places when I worked in the area.

I ate at Lambert's downtown, it was really good. At night, they have live music.

Since I just got back from Austin and hit up some bars minus my Honkey shirt....

If your the top 40 type try anything on W. 6th near Lavaca or the Warehouse district.

My friend made me go to a place called The Ranch saturday and there were plenty of mid 20's - early 30's types. Not my scene at all but if you like that upwardly mobile former frat/sororiety crowd it seems like the place to be.

I prefer Beauty Bar, Wisky Bar, and The Parish. More of an eclectic hipster crowd. Plus the music is soooo much better.

For dancing.....Qua's. It is on fourth street. The dance floor is on top of an aquarium that has small sharks and sting rays. This is a 25 and up place so no college students.

For Food, 219 West is close has a bunch of small dishes that you order to try a bunch of different things. I always love Kirbey Lane or Katz's for eating after 2am.
