What also helped was NOT having home field advantage in the NLDS both of those years.... the Braves got stuck with the mid-week apathetic day games, and the Astros got weekend games (was especially sweet in 05... Saturday primetime game and then Sunday 18 inning game).
I bought tickets to the Greinke game a long time ago not knowing who would be pitching. But I'm not like others who enjoy seeing aces from other teams. I'd much rather attend a game that I was fairly certain the Astros would win. Then again it makes it more fun if they beat a really good pitcher (like when they **** King Felix's bed a month or so ago).
I was there and posted my fake anger in that game thread. I literally only got to see him "pitch" for 5 minutes and he was gone. Gave my fantasy team like a 160.00 ERA. Awesome though seeing Correa's first HR and watching his family celebrate on the screen. Kershaw is on my Fantasy Keeper team but I hope we shell his ass.
Man those were fun games. I was lucky to be at both that weekend. Drove down from College Station just to attend the game. The Juice Box was damn LOUD with that roof closed.
It's actually bordering on the absurd because there's a fan who has all sorts of excuses for not attending games demanding everyone else attend games and implying that only he has the valid excuse.
Yep... I was in Dallas for OU weekend. Waited forever on Sunday to leave as the game kept going on and on... finally got in the car to head back and heard Burke's HR as soon as we hit the road. Epic times...
Actually it's not. Availability is an excellent reason (excuse). If someone offered free tickets and food to those who are... 1) mad about CSN 2) apathetic because the team sucks Most would probably go. All their anger goes out the window when it's free. However, offer the same deal to someone who simply isn't available and they still wouldn't go. You already knew that. You just want to argue. Answer this, do you think Houston is better off with NASCAR and/or NHL? The answer is clearly YES, but since you wanna argue and be diffcult, you'll either... 1) not answer 2) conjure a way to dodge saying "yes" I'm not a fan of either event, but at the same time, I know they generate money, notoriety, and excitement for a city.... which is a good thing. No poster will admit it. They'll just... 1) not answer 2) dodge saying yes 3) make ignorant jokes about my caring about racing It's cool though, there are some things people will never admit
In general, the more activities a city has, the better it is as long as it can be economically feasible for all involved. What people are getting on your case about is your incessant whining about the Astros' attendance, when you, yourself (a noted Houstonian), has yet to attend a single game. You make excuses for yourself, yet seemingly don't give the rest of the population the same leeway.
LOL People were on my case this entire thread (before I said anything about my attendance total). Their responses included some hostile attacks when I said nothing personal to anyone. Availability is the ultimate excuse (reason). Thanks at least for admitting the city would be better off with more sports.
You and the hangout guy who's obsessed with METRO should have a man party. Invite carl herrera and jopatmc and bandwagon and swoly.
I think hockey and nascar would be a detriment to the city. The rednecks and frostbacks can just to elsewhere as far as I'm concerned (which isn't much)
Those people are already here. There's no detriment, unless you think more money, notoriety, and excitement are bad for a city. Some people will never grow a sack... smh Spoiler
Exactly how many nuts do I need? I do wish you the best of luck on your endeavors to bring rednecks on wheels and rednecks on skates to the fine city of Houston.
If people are being real, it shouldn't take any nutz. Most knowledgeable females would, at minimum, recognize NHL and NASCAR would better the city. But since you're weak, it might take every tree in San Saba.
I commend you on your efforts. I think an internet poll and/or petition will surely get the job done.
