Our a/c is always on at 75. Last summer we kept it on 72-73 and had a $250+ electric bill, so now we keep it on 75 & we put in ceiling fans.
Damn, 89 outside? I guess that's about right, but I gauge mine on what it feels like inside, say 80ish...I finally turned on my A/C last week...Yesterday I started doing the programable thing, where if it hits 83 inside the house, it turns on....I had it at 83, but whats the difference... However, now that its just me, the lowest it gets is 79 inside as I have my ceiling fans full blast and it doesn't make sense...It'll go to 77 once my kids get here...yeah , I know I'm a cheap azz....
I don't spend much time at home during the day (work), so I usually just turn it on come bed time. I usually suck it up during the day (fans, open doors, etc.), unless it gets unbearably hot/humid.
During the day, I set mine to 76-78, before going to bed, I drop it to 69. I have the worst time sleeping in even warm conditions. It's got to be pretty cold out (high below 55) for me to leave it off, since our house traps heat awfully well. Evan
You sir, are my idol. How in the WORLD are you able to do that and not have an outrageous electric bill?
This is an Anal thread. I don't think anyone looks at the current temperature outside and says, "hey, I need to turn on my AC because it went to 88 degrees today". Most people have a comfortable setting in their home and use an auto thermostat. I set mine to 75 and it kicks on and off when it needs to. Simple
I have my electric bills on the fridge, and that's the first thing people notice. How the hell do I keep my place so cool (it's roughly 1400 sqft) and pay so little? Some of my friends live in smaller apartments and keep theirs set at 72 and still end up paying $175-250 or so a month. There must be some malfunction with the meter, but I'm not going to complain about it.
