I would 100% be okay with adding Beltre if it came at the right price. I'm guessing you'd either put him at 3B and move Bregman to LF or have him split time between 3B and DH?
I don't see Luhnow trading for Beltre. He will cost 8-10 million bucks for 3 months with some injury risk, and the rangers would want a big overpay to deal with the Astros.
The Astros were in on Darvish last year, so I don't think they'll avoid dealing with the Rangers. Beltre isn't exactly a perfect fit though.
Astros had interest in the past. Depending on his health and the cost; I would gladly get him to spell 3rd, 1st and DH.
Bregman mentioned recently how uncomfortable he was in LF. I doubt we'll add anyone who will in effect move Bregman to the outfield, especially with Tucker on the horizon. I think, realistically, any offensive reinforcements will either be internal (Tucker, Davis, etc.) and/or small improvements a la Maybin from last year. That said, can you imagine how funny it would be to add Machado to this lineup? Half this board, myself included, might actually die. The next month will be telling as far as the bullpen is concerned. Sipp has pitched well and there's no real elite closer available. Maybe we add Hand or Iglesias if Giles continues to struggle, but our pen has mostly been solid all year. I don't see our FO panicking and making a move just because, especially with what's on the market right now. There's only a few Kimbrels, Chapmans, and Jansens esque-closers in the league, and they ain't moving anytime soon (shoutout 2017 playoffs).
[Premium Post] We shouldn't go with a rental bat unless a superstar (Altuve, Correa) goes down with an injury. Otherwise, Kyle Tucker's call up represents the late season batting boost that we need.
I'd be ecstatic if we landed Treinen. He's been nasty this year. Trading within the division may add a tax, but Luhnow/Beane have made a couple trades IIRC. Treinen for J.D. Davis and a prospect or two, who says no? Obviously depends on who rounds it out, but we have the depth to make that type of move. Treinen has two more years w/ arbitration before he becomes a UFA.
I still believe there will be a bat they trade for and at least 2 bullpen arms. They might even sneak a trade in involving peacock or McHugh since there value is currently extremely high. Might not be a bad idea
While this post makes perfect sense, Luhnow has made a move or two each time the team is playoff bound. Iglesias is who I'm hoping for. Also a bat like Baor would be a great add,
Call the teams for Brad Hand, Raisel Iglesias, and Blake Treinen and offer Derek Fisher, JD Davis, and Josh James, take whichever accepts first.
Is that a credible rumor.. The Marlins put out an offer lowballing themselves? Realmuto doesn't come to the stros without alvarez going the other way. The production from stassi is incredible, C isnt a position I let go of a top prospect. Bullpen looked good against the worst offensive team in the majors, the royals (even then premier closer Giles blew a game), but consistently collapses against elite talent. No way you leave the backdoor open for a team this good, a mentally tough 9th inning guy is the first, second and third priority before the deadline.
Pretty sure that was that was a hypothetical and not a rumor. Bullpen continues to be very good, especially when compared to the rest of the major leagues.
Has to be a rumor. Nats were asked for one of their stars for Realmuto... https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2018...ionals-gm-unwilling-asking-price-marlins.html
My inside sources say I made it up completely. I'd probably give up Alvarez and Stassi for Realmuto. Cornerstone guy at the hardest position to fill. Would be huge for the team long term.
