True statement. But why would you want to mess with Colby Rasmus LOL! Last year's interviews after the Yankee's and DBacks games.
Whike I doubt it is an issue, I suspect the guys the Astros are trying to bring in a guy on a contract 100 million more than those guys.
Feldman also on a bargain salary this year. $8MM, so either going to be a positive asset for us or a very tradable piece.

I'm hoping this is just a 'log jam' move as Luhnow is claiming and not a salary dump. IF its a salary dump, I'd be seriously concerned about the Astros' ability to spend some real $ in free-agency. As other posters have pointed out, we are still in the bottom of spending and hopefully no budget constraint (within 'reason') will hamper the Astros' from adding to the team. The $7M or so they save from Lowrie is kind of peanuts in today's game. There is a clear window of opportunity. They need to seize on it now! Moves I'd like to see: -Sign a hard-throwing bullpen arm (doesn't have to be a closer...Gregerson was very effective last year) -Sign a top of the order SP (I'd take Kazmir back at a fair deal; or swing for Price, Greinke) --Sign Chris Davis --3B platoon Valbuena with Moran/White?
Yeah... was sorta my point. No way you can get him now for those 3 (along with the ghosts of Kyle Weiland and Brad Peacock). However, McCurry may turn out to be a potential back-end bullpen guy, so this could all eventually come full circle.
Let's say the Astros have X to spend. The Lowrie trade saved 14 million dollar dump. The Astros now have X+14 million to spend. As I suspect the Astros are looking at adding a high dollar contract or a couple of medium sized contracts, the cutting salary should make you more excited about free agency.
This. Was nice to have him in the lineup, effective switch hitter. As everyone else says, he's a solid contributor "when healthy." I have a feeling he'll be back on the team next year.
