Not a sexy trade, but it makes sense. Under a infield roster crunch and Lowrie probably didn't have a starting role. McCurry doesnt sound like he has huge upside but results look good and he's probably close to major league ready. ultimately, trade saves cash, opens up 40 man roster spot, and adds depth to the pen.

I like the trade a lot. I do, though, hope that Jed can have a full healthy season with the A's. I wonder if he feels bitter at all since the Astros made it very clear when they signed him that they had full intention of keeping him through the 3 year deal...
Always feel a little bad when you trade a guy that clearly wanted to be a part of what we're doing, but it's a business. Wish he could have stayed healthy. This certainly has the feel of clearing salary. I think it also means Valbuena is likely retained unless we pull off a trade. Moran should hopefully be ready to take the reigns at some point this year. Guy we got back seems like he could help us in the pen. He certainly isn't a flashy arm, but he was racking up the K's, so he was missing bats.
Feel bad for Lowrie.... I think he wanted to be a part of this squad. He would hVe been an ideal 3rd baseman for the next two seasons.
God I hope they plan on trading for a real third baseman. I don't that I can sit through another year of Valbuena.
Lowrie's OBP was 0.312 last year. Valbuena had a similar OBP and both are projected to have similar OBP in 2016.

Love it. Clears salary and nets an asset. If we let Valbuena go, and maybe Carter too, it frees us up to make a move for a legit player
Clear salary? The astros have one of the lowest payrolls in MLB. They should be spending 50 mil more than they are spending.
Always curious if the dynamic of a team like the Astros will change if you bring in a high priced free agent when you have young ball players still making rookie pay who are better players.
I don't recall any resentment towards Scott Feldman or Colby Rasmus this past season, and I doubt there'll be any resentment in the locker room next season regardless of how much any one player is making.
