http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2012/01/astros-sign-zach-duke.html Just another arm to challenge our young guys in ST. Low risk low reward.
Don't like the buy low "upside" moves type like Woody Williams or Kent Bottenfield with a little name recognition(!) to them?
Whats not to like, there's zero risk involved. Woody Willams isn't a good comparison, we actually paid him substantial money. All of these guys are gonna make next to nothing, thats if they even make the club.
Doubtful he makes the roster unless a trade happens. Right now our first four is set: Wandy Myers Norris Happ The 5th starter favorite has to be Jordan Lyles, with ARod, Sosa, and Duke competing for it.
Kyle Weiland is also in the mix. By end of spring training, Wandy and Myers could be traded and Happ could be outplayed, so Norris might be the last-man-standing of the above four.
Happ's job is secure. $2.35 million this year, with no options left. He'll start the season in the rotation barring injury.
Se above regarding Happ. We hope Wandy and Myers will be dealt, but I'm less than optimistic they are gone by opening day.
Tend to agree with you, but it is not an absolute, Happ could go to pen or be dealt, but he will certainly will get the benefit of the doubt.
Definitely a low risk move in regards to Duke. Did Lyles not earn a spot last year? What's the benefit to having him back in AAA?
