In the end, 9 times out 10, I think most GM's prefer good pitching to good hitting. If Appel ends up being a TOR guy and one of our 3B prospects turns out to be decent, my guess is Luhnow would be happy with that as opposed to taking Bryant. In retrospect, I also think the Aiken issue makes taking Appel even more paramount.
I don't remember a ton of unhappiness with the Appel pick. I remember something more akin to, "SCORE! We passed on Appel for Correa, and now we have them BOTH!! [insert Morey/Luhnow or Luhnow sunglasses pic]"
Actually, at the time, 94.17% of the posters here responded that Appel was either their first choice for the pick or that they were satisfied. Only 5.83% said they were disappointed. See http://http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=239506 Looking 10 post in, it appears you were even "happy with this pick" because Appel has "all the tools."
Seal did say his top choice was Bryant. I assume he was in the satisfied realm as I would have been right after the draft if the Astros had selected Bryant or Gray. Even though I like Moran, I didn't see him as 1-1 material and I would have been disappointed if he was the 1-1 pick.
I remember making that post because so many people seemed unhappy with the pick. I've never been anti-Appel, I've always thought he was gonna be good, but I thought Bryant had superstar potential. The Astros went with what was at the time the safer pick, which typically isn't a bad idea in my book.
How do you know you made a mistake unless it's in hindsight? I've never known anyone to say they made a mistake before it actually becomes a mistake. The Astros org. spends a lot of monies to analyze players and so far it looks like they made the wrong choice. I was also okay with the pick at the time but I dont work for the Astros nor am I skilled in making those decisions. Like I said, If i had my last 100 bucks on which is making it big, Im putting it on Bryant. There's too much homerism sometimes. Both players could still make it big or fall flat on their arses, that was never my argument, but it's definitely more than just a coin flip between the two. Ive always felt that Appel had a stiffness to his pitching that never set right with me but I also think the consensus on this board was okay with him being the pick was because we desperately needed pitching in the organization.
http://totalfratmove.com/miami-marl...ust-been-outed-as-a-sports-bettor-on-twitter/ Not sure if this has been talked about yet. Could be something worth keeping a close eye on. Cossart was always making waves on social media which is probably a big part of why he was traded
Little off topic but does anyone think it'd be beneficial to have a random trade idea thread in the Astros forum? For example, I would like to see the Astros go after someone from the nationals rotation such as Tanner Roar but I'm not sure where I can post that. Or would that idea be to garmish?

In this day/age of IP address locating, shouldn't it be pretty easy to prove which computer/device this "hacker" was using to post those tweets... and whether or not it was a similar device to his other tweets/posts from prior to two weeks ago? I'm all for innocent until proven guilty, but this should be entirely traceable.
That would be true in a legal investigation, but I'm not sure if MLB would have access to that info - that would probaly be a violation of Twitter's privacy rules. Should be interesting to see how this plays out.

Jared was punished for using Twitter while still in the minors. He was not well liked and his maturity was questioned. I am sure his make up played a part in his trade.
That is your guess. My guess is that Luhnow and the nerd cave did not like Cosart's funky mechanics. BTW Luhnow did not mention Cosart's twittering as a reason for the trade.
