Well, it is what it is. I can b**** and moan all day about who is it or isn’t the manager. I won’t. Time to prove all the haters wrong. Go out and win it all.
Dusty has won everywhere he has gone. We don't need a Joe Maddon or Kevin Cash with this roster. We need a steady hand. Springer Altuve Brantley Bregman Alvarez Correa Gurriel Tucker Maldonado with Verlander, Greinke and McCullers in the rotation and Osuna and Pressly in the bullpen. You're telling me that team needs some tactical genius to win 100 games? This team will do more than fine with an experienced clubhouse leader like Dusty Baker. I'm pleased with the hire.
Not my first choice, as honestly, I liked Bannister, and if we want old school, I would've preferred Ron Washington. But It is what it is...#LetsGoAstros
There’s nothing really wrong with Dusty Baker, but this feels like Crane doing everything he can to suck up to MLB rather than doing what is best for the organization.
I dont see the issue with Baker. I was in on Bannister but whoever it was they're here to steer the ship and Baker is solid and gets the most out of his players. You got Strom in the dugout who is invalauble to you.
Interesting that multiple other reports are suggesting no decision has been made yet. But for the sake of this post I'll just assume he's the guy... He's old school, so complete opposite of Hinch. However, he's won everywhere he goes. By all reports, he's always been very well-like by his players. This is most likely the talented team he's ever managed, so he's got as good of a chance of getting over the playoff-hump that's always eluded him as he's ever had. Winning 95+ games and making a deep playoff run should be very very doable with him at the helm.
I got a txt this morning saying it was likely Baker but he was cautiously hoping it wasn’t right. I’d believe the reports. He’s fine if uninspiring on the surface. Better than Ausmus.
Provided Baker is willing to embrace the Astros use of analytics and turn the pitching staff over to Strom, this can work out well. He easily had the best and most accomplished resume of any managerial candidate the Astros interviewed.
Turning over the pitching staff to Strom seems super unlikely. Hopefully he heavily leans on his input though. But no matter who the hire was going to be, this should be a fantastic Astros team. Baker unlikely messes that up and l agree, potentially does something positive with it.
