Very luke warm here, Maddux wasnt much of a pitching coach. Would much prefer Jim Hickey if ya wanna go that route.
Eh, I'm happy with Brent Strom as a pitching coach, and I'm not sure how that would play with Maddux.
Could be true information or could be speculation based off of Mike Maddux's comments about being "very interested" in the job: http://www.dallasnews.com/sports/texas-rangers/headlines/20140904-with-mike-maddux-interested-in-astros-what-is-rangers-next-move.ece
He did not see eye to eye with management. Reading between the lines, Luhnow wanted him to do things that he apparently wasn't willing to do. Luhnow took responsibility for the team's record. According to reports, he did a lot of high schoolish things in the locker room. Stuff that grown men might find a bit silly. If I were GM I would have fired him when he did the Tony Sipp move to the outfield and lost his DH in a one run game when Carter was guaranteed to get one more at bat. Or I would have fired him when he didn't know the rule that a reliever had to pitch to at least one batter (although to his credit, somehow he got the umpires to agree with him). Even Wesley Wright knew that Porter was wrong.
