Math checks out but it's somewhat flawed because the players have played for multiple teams.

Regardless, what an outstanding accomplishment for the Stros !!

Houston, we have a dynasty... and they're not finished yet.

I might make a bet on him to lead the league in save percentage, but not total saves

As long as Ryan is healthy and throwing well I don't see them using Hader in back to backs a lot, 3 games in 4 days, things like that. He will clearly be the closer, but he won't be pushed as hard as some other closers

We are going to win every game eleventy to nothing so he will end the year with zero saves. This is science, don’t fight it.

I forgot about Hader refusing to go in before the 9th. That’s terrible.

Fans should have full confidence in Hader.

He's only had ONE bad season in 7 years -- and FIVE all-world.

His only runs this season were games he was likely gassed. And those runs happened around pitch #20. He didn't just enter the game blowing it up. It's similar to Pressly last season @DET. He was pitching 3rd game in 4 days IIRC.. and things didn't blowup until pitch ~20. Espada will break the bad habits Toothpick discharged on him.

Chance are, the Astros will have a Top 5 pitching staff -- both starters and bullpen.

The same ******* who took a championship ring but later said he feels ashamed to have it? That dude can **** right off. I bet he didn’t have the balls to tell Hader that to his face.

The majority, if not all of that was caused by the front office ( Milwaukee's I believe) in arbitration.

They basically said " no matter how good of a closer you are, a closer is just a 1 inning guy and should be paid accordingly."

So Hader said, "OK don't pitch me more than 1 inning."

As soon as he got paid, he said "pitch me how the team needs me"

Hader, Montero, and Abreu will go down as some of the worst signings in Astros history.

Nah... Montero looks like a bargain compared to the other 2.

I am not joining the Hader hate squad just yet. His stats to this point are pretty awful, but its WAYYYYYY to early for me to come to a conclusion about him.

What is your point? Are you protecting Espada/Dusty? Blaming Hader?

If Milwaukee offered "just one-inning money", and the Astros offered more, I would tell my new team the same thing he said.

But managers need to manage, regardless of what players say. Consider the player's thoughts, sure, but the manager has the final say. THREE games in 4 days and FOUR in SIX is borderline stupid.

Verlander SAID he was good for Game 4 vs Tampa, but Hinch allowed him to pitch -- despite JV's 3-rest history -- and labor 85 pitches when it was clear in the 1st inning Justin was gassed.

Espada has made bad decisions with Hader. That's not an indictment on him. He will learn and improve, and the Astros will continue the dynasty.

My point is that Hader refusing to pitch morevthan one inning was in response to the front office and the system.

Hader has said he will pitch multiple innings in Houston if they ask him to. They ponied up. The other teams wanted to use his role to keep his salary down so he made them stick to that role.

Exactly. You're justifying throwing him 3x in four days and 4x in six.

Manager can pitch him multiple innings after he's had sufficient rest.

Thus far, TWO of his appearances have happened insufficient for ONE inning.

There's something underlying with your responses. I haven't read the thread but seems you're in the "overpaid him" camp.

    I'm not at all.

I have been thrilled since the signing happened and still am.

My post was to state his refusal to pitch more than one inning was for a specific reason and specific situation that no longer exists.

And Ryan Pressly had an 8.44 ERA after 6 appearances last year, and gave up 2+ ER 11 different times but was still fine and we all loved him coming into this season.

So giving up 3 ER in the first week of the season is no major issue.

    155 games left.

Let's beat the Rangers like the red headed step child that they are.

Hader, Presley, Abreu have been through this rodeo before. They’ll be fine, and the Astro will be in First place in the division sooner rather than later.

it’s early in the season, and teams are stoked to beat the Astros. But MLB is a marathon, and the sprinters tire out and fall by the wayside if they don’t have the talent.
