poopura didnt do a good job, period. Independent of if the owner is the problem. Between the poor trades and lack thereof trades cost poopura his job. He should be lucky he had it this long

On a side note, I hope this ends the "Astros are racists" bulls*** talk.

Bullcrap, were you here for the previous owner? Drayton has taken this team higher than it has ever been so please save your bashing. You really must have a short memory.

    seriously how hard is it?

you fill out a lineup card and then you play the %.

you find rest here and there for your catchers/older players.

the hard part is managing your pitchers innings and keeping clubhouse moral up for 6 months but still for a lifetime baseball guy he should be fine IMO.

i think timing is important. there's a time and place for it...i'm not sure bagwell's number retirement ceremony is a good time for it.

but houston has certainly "grown up" as a baseball city.

How quickly folks seem to have forgotten the terrible ownership of John McMullen aka the man who ran off/let Nolan Ryan go to the Texas Rangers.

Holy crap...I was so busy and haven't been here all day...I pop up chron.com and bam, Timmy and Philly are gone...

I don't wish anyone any harm, but Tim had to go and at times, Phil was a little eratic...This season has sucked and well, not that this is a bright spot, but it will help the transition period...Who's next?

Drayton just officially ruled out Gary Hunsiker at the press conference as the next manager so it will have to be someone new.

This is a good move and I guess Drayton wants to be taken seriously. There was no way either guy could come back. Doing it now projects an image of being decisive and it's gives the interim manager a trial run.

This is surprising that it happened before the year was over. I'm glad that Uncle Drayton fired Timmy P though, he was very unimpressive in his short stint as GM.

It also sorta lets Drayton off the hook and allows him to save some face. He's just as responsible for what's happened this season as is Purpura & to a lesser extent, Garner.
