Yeah, poophead. You could've traded two mediocre prospects for a guy from Florida, but you were too busy eating. Oh, wait...
Someday, son, if you eat your wheaties, mind your parents, read a lot, take plenty of Flintstones vitamins, be kind to strangers, say your prayers, really study your Alphabit soup, brush your teeth, and generally get very, very lucky...you just might graduate 3rd grade.
Purpura should just move his office to Pancho's. That way when he gets an idea that makes him feel famished, he can just raise the flag and more food will arrive to give him the strength to carry on.
I saw him at a bagel shop during breakfast time once. But the convenience of raising a flag for food would probably win out.
Perhaps they should have waited to see what he does after this offseason; still I don't see anything wrong w/ this move. Purpura hasn't done much, but I think he has made some decent moves considering what was available.
define "anything." a game? a division? the wild card spot? a playoff series? league pennant? world series??
I know we went to the WS last yr...and we almost won the division this year...but i have a hard time attributing any of it to Purpura. I would have liked to see him work through an offseason (like this one) where we have payroll flexibilty...potential holes to fill (like our pitching rotation)...free agents who could help us and have said that they would consider playing here...maybe pull off a good trade (i think the Huff deal was good and i hope he stays) and THEN decide whether or not to retain him.
I thought Trever Miller was a GREAT move... the kind of under-the-radar deal that the Hun would pull off that would end up benefitting the club big-time. Too bad Garner wasted the first quarter of the year with Gallo (while Miller was hurt)... by the end of the year, Miller was just so damn confident, at one point striking out Ryan Howard on 3 straight pitches. I also thought he handled the young pitchers' struggles decently (which probably frustrated him more than anybody)... he gave Buchholz and Wandy some early opportunities, but when they didn't get it done they were vanquished to AAA. He waited on Hirsh (which probably ended up being a good thing). His hiring of a new pitching coach will go a long way to easing the growing pains a lot of the young guys went through this year. Overall, he hasn't done a lot to make him the "best gm in baseball", but at the same time, the moves he has made have helped the club... and he hasn't made a "bad" decision (the type that limits what a club can do) yet.
TP's eating probably starts with his eating his heart out at the domination of personnel moves by D-Mc. Do nothing starts with 'do nothing unless I tell you to do something but then I'll probably tell you to do nothing then do it myself anyway but thanks for being out there to take the heat when nothing is what gets done'. What's with the fat jokes BTW? Are y'all so buff as to ignore the successes famous fat people are having in sport, from Bubba Wells' rebirth in SD to the rebirth of ND FB? Oh, Surfguy, who's your daddy? Sounds like Uncle Buck could help in that dep't. Listen when your superiors talk.
