It actually wasn't... if you had a Gold Glove OF out there, they'd make that play look routine. Patterson made it look spectacular because of the awkward way he ran to the ball, and the snow-cone catch.
A one run lead is NEVER safe with our bullpen....never.....except for Wheeler and Lidge the rest of it seems to be living on luck. Qualls leaves more pitches over the fat part of the plate and sometimes is wild...drives me nuts. DD
Look at all the teams in MLB... and they'll all tell you they have the same problem. You can't really ask for more than 2 quality releif pitchers on the calibur of Wheeler and Lidge. And then Qualls, while he's "wild" sometimes, has good enough stuff to have a low 3 ERA, and great #'s against lefties. And the only time the Astros did have a bullpen that was virtually automatic, we didn't even make the playoffs that year.
That inning sucked....Nomar stops Ensberg from a sure double....Berkman missed TWO hanging sliders over the middle of the plate, Lamb scorches one to center and Patterson makes a sno-cone catch, and Ensberg is running in mud caught stealing. Horrible luck, and horrible inning. One last chance, can September Ausmus do it again? I would not bet on it.... One game lead with 6 to play......dang. DD
this isn't the first time burnitz burned us this year, rite? I think he's bitter about the stros not signing him this off-season :-(
Yea, I am. Maybe its the post-Rita syndrome... or maybe its because I hate playing the Cubs no matter what the situation. I hated them in the 90's when they were horrible, and I hate them even more w/ Dusty at the helm.
I hear ya. I freaking hate the Cubs. I hope Micheal Barrett dies. Quoting a movie...I really don't hope he dies.
I wouldn't mind it one bit. Honestly, the worst part about losing to the Cubs is the obligatory Michael Barrett quote about how he feels that they're a better team than Houston, and how they 'deserve' to be in the playoffs more than Houston does.
i think luke scott might get a chance to be a hero today... so i'll go ahead and call his first big league HR
