While we need pitching (Verlander please), this is the kind of depth move I was hoping for. Maybin may not be a world killer with the bat but he has other tools that will serve this team well in the playoffs.

Not sure how anyone could possibly be upset with this trade. You can't look at this move and judge it based on what you wanted to happen at the July 31st deadline or your desire for Verlander. The team literally gave up nothing to add a guy who is a perfect fit as a 5th OF and pinch runner in the playoffs. We've seen pinch runners play huge roles in playoff games before so I like this move. Very little risk with a solid reward potential.

I've been hearing this is why we made the move. The tigers apparently want fisher to complete the verlander deal. So hopefully this trade wasn't just random

Unless we waive Fisher, and he clears waivers, there's no way we can include him in a deal. You are not allowed to include anybody on the 40 man roster in a Waiver Deadline deal.

Yeah, they're admitting Fisher isn't ready.

Verlander would be great. He seems Nolan-esk in that his arm might still be lively late into his 30's. He still throws 98 during 9th innings and rarely gets injured. He might be very good for 3+ more seasons.

Regardless, they are currently clearly in contention to win the world series.

Nope. Since the Astros didn't make a notable trade at the deadline, they don't have a chance to win the world series despite likely being the best team as anyone in the AL. A guy from a losing team makes more of a difference in winning the World Series than an entire team of players with the best record in the AL.

He could be a PTBNL and wait until the session is over

Exactly. I am almost certain that there is flexibility to include Fisher as a PTBNL in a deal. Front offices know the loop holes and the different ways to get something done, so I don't see that as an obstacle at all. I'm still not holding my breath, but I wanted to point out that Fisher can be involved in a potential Verlander deal.

Baseballs trade deadlines are so confusing. Why even have a waiver deadline with all of these rules?

Just move the actual trade deadline to august 31st

Sucks for Cleveland too, since they didn't make a trade either.
