I'm guessing they will end up knocking on the door of 100 losses again next season, but honestly, I would believe almost anything. If someone told me that the Astros were going to push to finish about .500, I'm sure I could convince myself of that. Likewise, I would also believe that they were going to challenge the franchise record for losses again.
95-99 losses... Better talent around them, a new league, new damn everything. I for one, is looking forward to watching these Stro's. We will be bad for the short coming, but better in the long run.
I hope we keep losing +100 games. Only way to rebuild the farm system and be competitive in 2017-18. We are Not remotely close of winning Anything within the next 5 years. Keep losing and getting good prospects to develop is the way to go. Getting top 3 picks for the next 2-3 years is a blessing in disguise. Be patient.
That is not a good way to build a franchise. We've already had back-to-back #1 picks, and we've had Castro/DeShields/Springer as top 11 picks. You don't want a team to lose annually. You want the players to feel hope. You want them to want to be here. Gettin the #1 pick next year will be nice, but only because there is the highest rated draft pick of the last 3 years.
I agree. It does no good to get good picks if you cant keep them on the team when they come to fruition. What do you mean by "highest rated pick of the last 3 years" ?
Carlos Rodon (2014 favorite for #1 pick) > 2012 & 2013 drafts Couldn't think of a good way to put it. Depth of prosepects is most important unless you have a true superstar at the top.
So, this guy wont be available next year, but the year after? So we need another worst record in 2013 to get him?
Yes. We'd have to finish with the worst record in baseball again. He will be our solace if we suck next as bad next year. His stock really rose after dominating the ACC as a freshman. If he builds on that, we might start drooling next year, and then we won't end up with the #1 pick. Good news is, I'd take Mike Trout first overall in a draft of any baseball player in the world, and he was around the 20th pick. Don't remember exactly, but we passed on him.
I expect to be the worst in the AL next year, hands down. In the NL, only Colorado and CHC were even in the ball park of the kind of bad the Astros were. Colorado had their worst record in over 20 years, so they may bounce back a bit. So only the Cubs, as I see it, will be in competition with us for worst record next year. I really hope next year is the last of the bottom dwelling years for us. And a really consensus #1 pick would help to sooth the all the losing some.
Luhnow says Astros will spend 30 mil this winter. Personally I'd like Michael Bourne back, Altuve should hit second and we need OF help. And then an innings eater starter to save the pen
This isn't the NBA. He doesn't get to decide if he is draft eligible. He isn't. Hopefully somebody steps up this year.
Too much faith in the Indians and Twins. Really depends on what we do with the pitching staff. I'm afraid of the shellings some of our guys will take.
It would require us to make an 11 game improvement to reach Minnesota's 2012 win total. Its not that I think Minny or Cleveland is that good, I just dont see that kind of jump for us in a new and more difficult league. Not next year. The year following? Perhaps yes. Now my whole logic is predicated on their 2012 records. If one or both of these teams, or some other team plummets, then I surely could be wrong
How is everyone so positive of 90+ losses when we haven't even had one day of offseason yet? You can buy a lot of mediocrity for $30MM.
No dice. Have to have Brandon Lyon. And in seriousness, if I was going to spend $30M, I'd be willing to spend a few bucks on guys like Lyon and Myers, who are both solid relievers. Pretty much all pitching with maybe one bat.
