Actually, this is familiar. Whenever there's been no timetable it's turned out to be more severe than that's been let on.

That's because there is no timetable on how long it will take for the swelling to go away. It can be any time. There isn't any standard measure of way to know.

The injury is a lot more serious than we've been told and the Rockets are hoping significant time off will help. Asik isn't helping himself or the team by sitting out, so I doubt he's doing this as a way to get back at the team. Hopefully this isn't a case of a player refusing to play for some idiotic reason... deja vu.

maybe if asik was traded to a team somewhere closer to the polar vortex, say cleveland, he would more easily be able to ice his knee up a little and then get on the court?

Completely fair. Our good fortune in signing Dwight has unfortunately made his career risky, so it makes total sense for him not to sacrifice even 1 minute on the court for the Rockets.

Let's be honest here, as an organization they don't care what happens to him in the future. He knows that, we know that. But he has to make sure he gets paid and gets minutes in the future, so it would be moronic for him to play at even 99% health.

The Rockets will boast that he's under contract, and that's true. But he is also abiding by his contract in doing this.

Frustrates me as a Rockets fan, but I don't take it personally at all. As GM's love to say to players, the NBA is a business.
