This is the part that bothers me. The level of selfishness and narcissism is incredible. We have posters on here talking about going out and about, going to restaurants and not taking precautions all with the simple “If you are young and healthy you have nothing to worry about”... when it is pointed out that they can spread it to those that are older or have health issues they literally ignore it because they don’t want to hear it.

I have people around me like this as well and the lack of empathy scares me on some level. Perhaps I just over estimated people on basic decency.

Exactly!! What's even more infuriating is Trump's absolute refusal to wear one when he goes anywhere. He is one arrogant jerk. His message is clear. He just doesn't care.

Texas had the most deaths out of all states yesterday, 3 consecutive days with 100+ deaths

@bigtexxx, if this number keeps growing, at what point do you think we should hit the panic button and go into a complete lockdown? Not 100 per day right, but 200? 500? 1k?

As long as he and his immediate family aren’t dying, he doesn’t give a ****.

Italy, Spain, UK all peaked at about 1k deaths per day, of course, those came after lockdowns meaning to peak at 1k you'd probably have to lockdown at 500, considering we aren't doing much of **** to prevent further spread, It seems entirely possible we get into peak Italy territory here in Texas.

EDIT - wow Spain and Italy went into complete lockdowns around 100 deaths per day, that is scary.

Look at Belgium, the unluckiest example. They closed MUCH earlier in their timeline with what 10 deaths/day? and still became one of the worst affected countries.
Closing down only bars and restaurants like you have been doing is just pathetic measure.

In the end not only many more people will end up dead and terribly sick but you all will have to spend most of the rest of the sunmer and start of autumn in total lockdown, because at some point the situation will make society not able to function. No matter how much cooking the numbers is going on.

A complete lockdown is not my preferred response. If that was the solution, why is Los Angeles, who had one of the strictest lockdowns in the country, having so many cases?

mask + distance + protect the vulnerable.

Here are the list of the countries with the highest new daily cases in the world yesterday, with Texas in the mix.

    USA 71,787
    Brazil. 45,235
    India. 27,761
    South Africa. 12,348
    Texas. 10,063
    Mexico. 7,280

For Texans to be put at risk voting in person during this pandemic is simply inhumane. Write your Representatives and demand change.

So you would never do an emergency full lockdown regardless of how many people are dying? If we have peak italy numbers with 1k dying per day, actually no,, Texas is HALF of Italy's population so the equivalent would be 500 deaths per day, a short 5x multiple away, all the hospitals are flooded, the morgues are flooded, you'd just keep things the same as they have been this whole year in Texas that has resulted in exponential growth?

Los Angeles is a global hub, specifically the hub for Asia to America, NY/LA are uncomparable to other cities IMO. There was community spread cases happening in early January, that being said, imagine how many cases they would have if they didn't lock down and take the efforts they have taken? If we look at the results from lockdowns in other countries we can see, it would be much worse for them.

Like you see what Sweden did in comparison to Norway/Finland right, the lockdowns did that. You see how Italy went from being horrifically bad (6k cases per day) to 200 cases per day (for a country of 60 mill), what do you think did that?

If things continue to get exponentially worse, which I hope it doesn't, I hope that mask + distancing is enough, I hope the virus was weakened, I hope it's just young people getting it now who will have zero long term complications, I hope treatments are much better, but if these things aren't entirely the case, if out daily death toll continues to rise, if our hospitals are flooded, we will have to shut the **** down at some point, it won't be much of a choice.

Italy closed completely down at 100 deaths per day... and ended up at 1k deaths per day for a country of 60 million people.

Texas is currently 100 deaths per day, we are not completely shutting down, and we have a population of only 30 million.

At this point, it seems entirely possible, if not probable that we end up getting this worse then Italy, if my soul wasn't already completely crushed by this country I'd probably have an emotional outburst over that, but I'm dead inside so don't worry folks. If we end up being worse then Italy, despite us having months to prepare in comparison, despite us having nearly twice the wealth of Italy, it will be an overwhelming, irrefutable sign that this state (and country) is weak, is completely dysfunctional, and is inhumane at its core towards its own citizens. This isn't supposed to be what America is, where the **** is the American pride, where is don't mess with Texas, why is all that pride in deadly corruption, dysfunction, weakness, and idiocy? Why isn't behind tackling this pandemic that is killing hundreds of thousands? That is causing permanent organ damage in many survivors?

It will get to a point where the point system will determine who lives or dies. The point system doesn't take into consideration reasons the person needlessly and carelessly put themselves in a risky situation. Who deserves first priority on living or dying?

A 30 year old who partied with friends in large groups mask free and carefree.

A 40 year old who refused to wear a mask in public.

A 30 year old who dined in restaurants frequently, where masks weren't enforced.

An 80 year old who stayed inside as much as possible, and wore a mask going to the grocery store or doctor.

A 70 year old who never left the house, but went to the ER for a condition other than Covid.

I hope Florida voters remember this when they go to the voting booths in November... and when desantis comes up for reelection. The response has bordered on criminal...
