TURKEYGLUE!?!?!? Damn has his stock dropped. http://www.sacbee.com/100/story/256061.html Kings eye a Hedo reunion A source says trade talks -- Ron Artest is a likely candidate -- have been held. The playoff streak, of course, was stopped at eight consecutive seasons last April. And with three coaches in the past three seasons, the Kings can't exactly boast about stability to players considering coming to Sacramento. Nonetheless, the competition for roster spots might be more intense than ever. Only nine players have guaranteed contracts for next season, giving free agents and summer-league standouts a chance to make the roster. But the Kings' roster retooling appears to include an attempt to bring a former player back via trade. According to a league source, the Kings recently contacted Orlando about Hedo Turkoglu. The small forward, entering his eighth season, began his career in Sacramento in 2000 and was part of a three-team trade in 2003 that sent him to San Antonio. The source would not go on record for fear of repercussion. The most likely King to be offered in a deal would be small forward Ron Artest, whose $7.8 million salary for the 2007-08 campaign is close enough to Turkoglu's $6.3 million salary to fall within the parameters of the collective bargaining agreement. Turkoglu has two seasons remaining on his contract and a player option for a third, while Artest has two seasons left on his deal but holds an early termination option for next summer. Kings basketball president Geoff Petrie did not return a call seeking comment. As for potential lower-level additions, the Kings released their Las Vegas summer-league roster Tuesday. The group is headlined by third-year swingman Francisco GarcĂa, second-year guard Quincy Douby and 2007 first-round draft pick Spencer Hawes, a center from the University of Washington. Among the four former Kings who became free agents July 1, big man Justin Williams is the only one on the summer-league roster. Noticeably absent is third-year guard Ronnie Price, who -- like Williams -- became a free agent but has been given a qualifying offer from the Kings that in no way guarantees a return. The Kings can rescind the offer, but it gives them the right of first refusal should another team make an offer. Meanwhile, point guard Pooh Jeter returns for his second summer stint with the Kings and could have a chance to make the roster. Jeter, a 5-foot-11 University of Portland product who was cut during the Kings' training camp last year, played well enough in the NBA Development League last season to start in the All-Star Game. Artest's brother, Daniel, who has played in community college and overseas, is also on the Kings' summer roster. As for the free-agent front, Petrie said Monday he has had "a preliminary conversation" with Corliss Williamson's agent, Jimmy Sexton. The former Kings forward said during the 2006-07 season he believes he has six seasons left. Williamson, 33, made $6.5 million last season and had said he would seek a three-year deal this time around. Petrie said no offer has been made. "He's a guy that everybody likes around here," Petrie said. "We'll continue to stay in touch with Jimmy and see at some point where we're at and what we're trying to do or what we may be able to do or get done that still fits for him and fits for us." It has also become official that point guard Mike Bibby is, for now, on the Kings' payroll for next season. Bibby did not exercise his early termination option for the 2007-08 campaign by the June 30 deadline, meaning he remains a King and will earn $13.5 million next season. Bibby has a player option after the 2007-08 season, giving him the chance to become an unrestricted free agent next summer and turn down the final year of his deal worth $14.5 million. Tuesday afternoon, the Kings released former assistant coaches Scott Brooks, Brendan O'Connor, Mark Hughes and Clay Moser. Jason Hamm was the only assistant coach not released. 1. If this is the going rate for Artest, man I hope the Rockets make an offer. 2. It looks like Bibby will stay in Sactown. Not that it matters much for us now that we have at least 4 point guards. 3. Is that our Scotty Brooks? Say it aint so
Apparently the Maloofs would rather cut their wrists than "give" Artest to Adelman. Just what I heard.
the maloofs were looked upon badly for releasing adelman, many of the kings fans felt that the coach was the least of their problems and liked adelman. he did make a first round matchup with the spurs exciting then the maloofs hire musselman and do even worse and it makes losing adelman even worse, and makes them look even worse. the last thing they want to do is send a star, albeit a troubled one, to that former coach just so he can help his new team succeed. that would just make them look even more foolish. outside of offering the kings yao or tracy i doubt the maloofs would agree to any trade with the rockets for artest....i remember reading that ric bucher on espn stating that petrie wanted to do the earlier proposed trade (vspan, snyder, sura's contract) but the maloofs nixed it quickly
hilarious. that crappy rocket's package (vspan, snyder, sura) is better than a straight up trade for turkeyglue imo. At least with the rockets deal you get potential, athleticism, and cap relief. Turkeyglue gives you..... an occasional midrange basket?
As a Pacers fan, it would at least encourage me that the Magic would be adding a ticking time bomb to their roster which would ultimately explode and make it one less team to compete with for a playoff spot. Turkoglu for Artest is actually OVERPAYING if you consider how crazy Artest is, and will always be, since his big issue with Pacers management was that (at the insistence of Stern's office) they wanted Ron to see some mental health professionals to help him straighten things out. He refused and wanted out just because it was an "insult" to be asked to do that, in his mind. Simply put, he is toxic.
Ha, definitely. I'll be glad when that punk Artest's situation is finalized so we don't have to hear anymore about him.
So Orlando would be looking at a roster that would include: Dwight Howard Rashard Lewis Ron Artest That's a very young and very talented core of players to have.
that's relatively young and talented. but all of those players have huge question marks on their jerseys. the magic tried to focus their offense on dwight howard when he clearly wasn't ready. they had a team that was really good but they ripped it apart because they wanted howard to take over. a guy that hasn't a single move on offense besides put backs, alley hoops and a shaky hook shot. rashard lewis is not a franchise player and has his issues. he's soft, can't rebound and defend and he's a little injury prone. artest is a little bit like lewis. he's clearly not a franchise player. he's a head case. granted, he's probably the most versatile defender. but you pay a price for his defense that's clearly not worth it. that price is that he wants to jack up shots whenever he wants to. when he doesn't get that he'll start trouble. clearly, the magic would be very overrated if they would get artest.
The Kings have Kevin Martin and Francisco Garcia at SG....they need Snyder to do what exactly? Cap relief? The Kings have ~$53m committed so they are slightly under the cap. Sura's traded and waived MIGHT put them under the cap as much as an MLE...but I doubt it. And they currently have ~$15m before they are at LTax level....more than that with Hedo because he makes less than Artes. VSpan? I'm struggling here...did somene recently move the capital of Greece to northern CA?
wow im getting shredded here. All I'm saying is that the supposed rox offer is not so bad as it sounds if the alternative is hedo. that and I'd really like the rox to pick up artest.
is battier too much for the rox too offer for artest? i'm pretty sure sa will be very happy artest for battier
Maybe, it just depends what you perceive as "better" Turkoglu: 6'10 G/F Age: 28 Year' FG% 3FG% PPG 00-01 .412 .326 5.3 01-02 .422 .368 10.1 02-03 .422 .372 6.7 03-04 .406 .419 9.2 04-05 .419 .380 14.0 05-06 .454 .403 14.9 06-07 .419 .388 13.3 Career .424 .388 10.5 Career MPG: 25.5 min. Not bad, obviously not as good as Artest, but you're never going to get equal value playing-ability-wise for him because he's a headcase. The previous offer that was mentioned before the draft: 26th pick, V-span, Snyder, and Sura would have probably been equal to Turkoglu. We've heard that the Sacramento GM wanted to do it but the Maloofs didn't. The problem is that none of those guys in the deal were proven players anyway, and now with the 26th pick used on Brooks, and V-span leaving, it's going to be impossible to get Artest. The only thing that we could offer equal to Turkoglu would be Luther or Bonzi + Sura + future 1st, or something like that. But if the whole ordeal with the Maloofs not wanting to help Adelman is true then everything is moot.
