Or us bringing in John Stockton as our coach. Anyway, McHale may or may not be a bad coach. But the hiring leaves me even more untrusting with the Rockets FO now. I thought they said they were going to get some "young and hungry" guy. McHale never strikes me as someone "hungry" and he's not that young. BTW, can you guys recall any former great players becoming great coaches?
needs "meh" option. If someone asked me if I wanted to taco bell right now, I'd say "meh, doesn't sound too bad, but there are better options."
Kevin Edward McHale Born: December 19, 1957 in Hibbing, Minnesota High School: Hibbing in Hibbing, Minnesota College: University of Minnesota Hall of Fame: Inducted as Player in 1999 (Full List) As Player: 971 G, 17.9 PPG, 7.3 RPG, 1.7 APG (Full Record) As Coach: 2 Yrs, 39-55, .415 W-L% (Full Record) And that's going to change because....????
I'm not exactly happy that Kevin McHale is the new head coach, but I don't mind sitting through it if the big plan is to groom Chris Finch.
I'm excited. I think McHale (assuming Finch as an assistant) is the best choice the Rockets could have made, aside from stealing Pop or Phil. I loved Adelman. Really really enjoyed having him here. Hall of Famer and a class act. 22 game winning streak will live forever in my heart. But Adelmans top priority is not the same as Rockets top priority, and that's the bottom line. I am not bitter about parting ways. McHale is everything the Rockets need. Cool guy, respected by players, experience as player, gm, coach. He knows the league at every level. He sees the big picture. Most importantly, he agrees with Morey and Les. A team cannot succeed if the coach disagrees with the team philosophy. Hey, maybe if Adelman was the GM and coach, he would agree with himself and everything would be fine. But that's not reality. Kevin McHale fits the Rockets better RIGHT NOW than Adelman. 4 years ago was Adelman's time. But that day is not today. I welcome aboard K-Mac and I'm excited for next season. In Morey I trust.
Put me in the neutral category. McHale's not likely to be any more successful than Morey's ability to change the roster up enough to fix the biggest holes on the team. If Morey can have an impact in the next couple of seasons in terms of player acquisition, then we'll really see what type of a coach McHale is. Giving him a gun that's missing a few bullets is going to limit how many chances he has to hit the intended target. I'm in wait-and-see mode.
I feel really bad for you today DD. It looks to be another long decade for Rockets Red fanatics such as yourself.
