Anyone who saw James roll his ankle as the clock was winding down during the Clippers game had to be worried. It looked so bad that I posted a plea for McHale to leave him out of the Nets game, to not take chances on the ankle turning into a lingering injury. So what happens? Harden plays 38 minutes, has a dozen dimes, 5 boards, and down the stretch, under 2 minutes, assists on a Jones 2 and a Beverley 3, draws another foul from Brown, the Nets rookie (after hitting 2-2 from the line on a foul by Brown with under three and a half minutes), then hits a crucial 2 with 27 seconds left, defended again by the rook (were the Nets nuts?) after not being able to hit the ocean all game.

That's clutch, folks. That's what superstars do. Hobbled, having a terrible shooting night, James accounts for the points that put paid to Brooklyn at the end. Sure, Terry put the icing on the cake with 2 clutch free throws, but we didn't need the points. Harden had made sure of it.

I can't freaking believe how similar LeBron James and James Harden's numbers were in that game.

the more interesting question is whether we are watching someone who, upon the conclusion of his career, will be remembered as the <strike>second</strike> best shooting guard to ever play the game.

    jordan be damned

We may be watching the best Rocket, period. Blasphemy, I know. But Hakeem's best season was at 32 years old (27.8ppg). Hakeem avg <23ppg when he was 25. The first time Dream avg more than 25 was when he was close to 30.

Harden, at 25 may eclipse Dreams best season.

I'll grant you, Harden needs some playoff success for anybody to take these numbers serious with respect to all-time great. I'm simply pointing out that the dude is putting up historic numbers. If they have a deep playoff run and he strings a few more seasons like this, the unthinkable may happen. He's playing THAT well.

Jordan won at 28. If, and that's a big IF, James starts racking them up now, surpassing 6 championships, 7 fingers held up on national TV after a Finals victory, I for one will say he's better than Jordan.

I am the biggest Harden homer there is. Nobody can overtake my spot at the head of the Harden bandwagon.

HOWEVER...he has a ways to go to catch Hakeem. A long ways actually.

I don't have stats in front of me but the FT disparity between Dream and Harden cannot be ignored. Dream's favorite shot was fading away from the basket while Harden drives to the basket with impunity, so it's natural that Harden will get more FT attempts, thus the higher scoring avg.

And I'll be the first to admit Harden has made a huge improvement on his D, but Dream is still the epitome of the complete 2 way player who played both ends of the court, the only other contemporary player that I would say matches him on that is MJ. There's more to it than scoring avg.

Take a breath, I know. I'm pointing out that his numbers are on par with Hakeem ...for a single season.

Harden is on track to having the best season of any Rocket ever. (I'll grant you that Hakeem's best statistical year was 94-95 ...sooooo, there's that. But hey, this season ain't over so here's hoping.

LOL WUT? Hakeem is a Center. Harden is a guard with the ball at all times. You can't just look at ppg. Were talking over 14 rpg, 3-4.5bpg, 2 spg, 3 apg type #s.
