Yes i'd say the Rockets are disliked. I think any team who is successful that isn't organically built will be disliked. Example Spurs, OKC, Pacers, Bulls (when Rose was healthy) are all teams that are loved by most, why? Because they drafted their own players and built up to their contender status Lakers, Heat, Clippers are all teams that are hated, why? James, Paul, Shaq, Gasol, Howard were all acquired or signed to make them contenders. Feels like they cheated. I know I really liked the Clippers before Paul was traded there, Gordon and Griffin were awesome young players, then Paul was traded there and I suddenly disliked the team. Just my little theory.
Lol. Rockets are not the most hated. They haven't won anything to deserve such a ruckus. But their method of building a team is frowned upon.
Can't make everyone happy. People hate Philly because they're tanking every year to build their team up. People love OKC because they tanked to build their team up. People hate the Rockets because they built their team up through trades. People love the Lakers even though they built their team up through trades (Shaq and Kobe, then Gasol). There's no logical reason behind any of it. Haters just hate.
Hate is a strong word. Let's stop being paranoid and self-centered. Why would anyone hate us? People suck up to winners or hate them due to jealousy or any reason, and they pile on to ridicule losers. We've been mediocre for ages, haven't made any noise, except for a few signings. So, why would people hate us? You only get to be hated if you are important.
People don't hate the Rockets because they use trades. People hate them because of Morey's (perceived) hubris and preference to trade for rather than develop a team. Add the baggage that Dwight brought along and Harden becoming the poster boy for poor effort combined with haughtiness. However, at the end of the day we haven't done ANYTHING so no one truly hates us.
When you have a MG who is constantly looking to get a superstar from other teams, then the fans from other teams will hate you. I really think the rockets fans hate Mavs more after the lost of Parsons to them.
they r all humble and classy, play team ball to perfection, winning by developing "role players", ppl r jealous for sure, but cant find any valid reason to bash on them. unfortunately rockets cant be spurs,
It doesn't read as, if you are important, you will be hated for sure. It's actually equivalent to "if you are NOT important, you will NOT be hated". BTW, what kind of real basketball fan will hate Spurs or TD?
I'd like to see what the sample size is for that survey. Of course, you can't ignore the fact that reddit hardly represents the NBA demographic.
Trading for a team is developing a team. This goes back to not being able to make anyone happy. It is tougher to build a team the way Morey has then it would have been by tanking. People right now dislike Sam Hinkie because Philly is trying to tank but also don't like Morey because he's been trying to win. I do agree with the Dwight baggage that makes the media dislike him but one championship can turn all of that around for Dwight just like how it did for Lebron.
People hate the Rockets because of all of the talk about how good they are supposed to be. You hear from the talking heads how Morey is a genius and he's such a good GM and he's so much better than other GM's. Then you got the most hated free-agent in Dwight Howard joining the Rockets, and the narrative is taken to another level about how Morey is a wizard. Now with Howard, you have Rockets' fans talking about championships and how they are automatically contenders. Everybody is talking about all of these lofty expectations. This rubs fans of other teams the wrong way. Not only are the Rockets a serious threat in the West now, but a lot of people are being kind of arrogant about it. So people want to see them fail.
